Telangana, Mauritius explore collaboration in emerging technologies and education

Hyderabad, Aug 30 (IANS) Mauritius Minister for Public Service and Administrative Reforms Luchmanen Pethia met the Telangana Minister for IT and Industries Duddilla Sridhar Babu at the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Telangana Secretariat here.

Both Ministers discussed ways to strengthen cooperation between Mauritius and Telangana across multiple sectors, a press statement from the state government said on Saturday.

According to the statement, the discussions focused on public administration, tourism, information technology and IT-enabled services (ITeS), emerging technologies, skill development and education.

Pethia said Mauritius considered Telangana a trusted partner and expressed interest in greater collaboration in capacity building and modern administrative practices.

He sought the Telangana government’s support in strengthening the capabilities of Mauritius government employees through training programmes, knowledge-sharing and exposure to best practices.

The Mauritius Minister also expressed interest in establishing closer cooperation with the Marri Channa Reddy Human Resource Development Institute (MCRHRD), Young India Skills University and other educational and skill-development institutions in Telangana.

Sridhar Babu said Telangana was ready to extend its cooperation to Mauritius across sectors and highlighted the importance the state government attaches to international partnerships and knowledge exchange.

He added that Telangana had developed considerable expertise in areas such as information technology, emerging technologies, skills and public administration, which could provide opportunities for mutually beneficial cooperation with Mauritius.

Sridhar Babu also invited Pethia to participate in the Telangana Rising Global Summit 2026, scheduled to be organised by the state government on December 7 and 8.

Industries Department Special Secretary Krishna Aditya and Information Technology, Electronics and Communications Joint Secretary Anudeep Durishetty, among others, were also present.

According to officials, the meeting underlined the growing scope for institutional cooperation and knowledge exchange between Telangana and Mauritius.

The focus was on governance, technology, education and skill development.

SpiceJet passenger alleges assault by Air India Express pilot at Delhi airport

New Delhi, Dec 20 (IANS) A SpiceJet passenger has accused an Air India Express pilot of assaulting him following a dispute over allegedly cutting the boarding queue at Indira Gandhi International Airport’s Terminal 1 in an incident that has triggered widespread attention on social media.

The passenger, Ankit Dewan, took to X, sharing a photograph showing blood on his face.

He claimed that the incident unfolded in front of his seven-year-old daughter, who, he said, has been deeply traumatised after witnessing the attack.

Tagging the Delhi Police on social media, Dewan questioned why he could not register a complaint after returning from his trip.

“Why can’t I file a complaint after coming back? Must I sacrifice my money too, to seek justice? Will the CCTV footage disappear in the next two days till I make it back to Delhi?” he asked.

The Delhi Police, however, claimed that no formal complaint had been received in connection with the incident.

“The matter has come to the knowledge of the police through a social media post. Whenever a written complaint is received by the victim in this regard, appropriate legal action will be taken,” the police said.

Dewan also alleged that he was forced to write a letter stating that he would not pursue the matter further.

“… It was either write that letter, or miss my flight and throw the Rs 1.2 lakh holiday bookings down the drain,” he said.

Dewan stated that the incident occurred while he was travelling with his family.

According to Dewan, airport staff directed him, his wife, and their children, including a four-month-old infant in a stroller, to use a security check-in lane typically meant for staff members to ease their movement through the terminal.

However, he alleged that while they were in the queue, some staff members began moving ahead of him.

“The staff was cutting the queue ahead of me. On calling them out, Capt. Virender, who himself was doing the same thing, asked me if I was anpadh (uneducated), and couldn’t read the signs that said this entry was for staff,” he said, adding that the exchange soon turned into a heated verbal argument.

“Not able to exercise restraint, the AIX (Air India Express) pilot proceeded to physically assault me, leaving me bloody. The blood in the photograph on his shirt is also mine,” Dewan said in another post on X, where he identified the pilot involved.

Air India Express issued a statement condemning the incident and said it does not tolerate such conduct.

“The employee concerned has been removed from official duties with immediate effect, pending investigation. Appropriate disciplinary action will be initiated based on the findings of the inquiry,” the airline said.

The airline clarified that the individual was travelling as a passenger on another airline at the time of the incident and was not on official duty.

“Air India Express upholds the highest standards of conduct and professionalism, and remains committed to ensuring that its employees act responsibly at all times,” it added in the statement.

Zero tolerance for terrorism: Jagdambika Pal on Operation Sindoor

New Delhi, May 11 (IANS) In the aftermath of tensions between India and Pakistan, sparked by the Pahalgam attack, BJP MP Jagdambika Pal came out strongly in support of the Indian government’s firm response against cross-border terrorism.

Pal hailed the recent military action taken by India, stating, “We destroyed nine of their major terrorist base camps. In the future, too, we will take this to its logical end. There is zero tolerance for terrorism.” He emphasised that India’s emergence as a global economic power has enabled it to act decisively despite threats, including warnings of nuclear retaliation from Pakistan.

“We know that war brings destruction and losses. But despite their threats, even of a potential nuclear war, we went ahead and destroyed their terror bases. I believe everyone will welcome this move,” Pal added.

Highlighting the need for preparing India’s youth to face future security challenges, Pal also underscored the importance of military training.

“No matter how much the world progresses, such challenges will continue to exist. Therefore, in India, it is important that our younger generation receives at least some form of military training.”

Shiv Sena MP Milind Deora echoed similar sentiments, applauding the government’s firm stance under Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “Firstly, let me congratulate the Government of India… I also pay tribute to the soldiers who lost their lives and to the brave soldiers from the Indian Air Force, the Indian Army, and the Navy who stood firm to protect India at any cost.”

Deora also targeted opposition parties for what he termed their inconsistent responses. “The opposition first was saying we must be more aggressive with Pakistan. Then, when our brave jawans demonstrated their bravery and courage, those same opposition members were saying de-escalate and say no to war. So the opposition’s job is to politicise,” he said.

31.52 lakh MT wheat procured in Haryana

Chandigarh, April 17 (IANS) A total of 31.52 lakh metric tons (MT) wheat has been procured in Haryana since April 1, officials said on Thursday.

Out of this, 8.59 lakh metric tonnes of wheat have been lifted.

A government spokesperson said wheat has been procured from more than 2 lakh farmers, and Rs 1,400 crore has been transferred directly to the farmers’ bank accounts.

Last year, 18.24 lakh metric tonnes of wheat were procured till April 16.

Also, the purchase of mustard was started on March 15. The work of purchase is being done by two procurement agencies — HAFED and the Haryana Warehousing Corporation. The spokesperson said 4.93 lakh metric tons of mustard has been procured in the state till April 16. The mustard has been purchased from 171,000 farmers and Rs 1,843 crore has been transferred directly to the bank accounts of farmers.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has sought exemption from the Goods and Services Tax (GST) on 10 agricultural implements used in crop residue management. In a missive to Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan last month, he said that stubble burning has become a major issue, adversely impacting the health of the people, but the state’s farmers are adopting advanced technologies and utilising the latest agricultural implements for crop residue management.

Over the past few years, both the Centre and the state government have been providing subsidies on machinery for crop residue management. Noting the reduction in stubble burning incidents in 2024, compared to 2023, Saini said that the state government has developed an action plan for 2025, which includes a provision for a subsidy of Rs 200 crore for the purchase of crop residue management machines. The total cost of these machines is expected to be around Rs 500 crore, with an additional burden of about Rs 60 crore on farmers due to GST (12 per cent).
