Guv approves Uttarakhand Minority Education Bill 2025, now affiliation with Board a must for Madrasas

Dehradun, Oct 6 (IANS) The Madrasa Board in Uttarakhand is set to become history as Governor Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh (Retd.) has approved the Uttarakhand Minority Education Bill, 2025.

With the implementation of this Bill, all Madrasas operating in the state will now be required to obtain recognition from the Uttarakhand Minority Education Authority and affiliation with the Uttarakhand School Education Board.

This move is expected to be a milestone in making the state’s education system more uniform, inclusive, and modern.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami described the decision as historic, stating that it will bring revolutionary changes in the field of education in Uttarakhand.

He said, “Our goal is that every child in the state, regardless of their class or community, should progress with equal education and opportunities.”

He further informed that starting from the academic session in July 2026, all minority schools will provide education based on the national curriculum and the New Education Policy. This will not only raise the standard of education but also give students the opportunity to be part of the mainstream.

Under this Bill, Madrasas will now have to register under the Uttarakhand Board, and it will be mandatory to include subjects like science, mathematics, and social science in their curriculum. Emphasis will also be placed on modern technical education and vocational training. This step will help empower students from minority communities for a better future.

With this decision, Uttarakhand has become the first state in the country to abolish the Madrasa Board and integrate minority educational institutions into the mainstream education system. This move is expected to play a significant role in bringing uniformity in education and promoting social inclusion. However, some organisations have expressed concerns over the decision.

They argue that special provisions should be made to preserve the cultural and religious identity of Madrasas. In response, the government has assured that religious education will still be allowed in the curriculum, but priority will be given to modern education.

Congress high command to take final decision on CM’s post: Rajanna

Bengaluru, Dec 8 (IANS) Former minister and senior Congress MLA K.N. Rajanna, a close associate of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, said on Monday that the party high command will decide on any changes in the leadership in the state, asserting that Deputy Chief Minister and State Congress President D.K. Shivakumar is unlikely to become the Chief Minister.

“Shivakumar becoming the Chief Minister is unlikely. I have already said that if he becomes Chief Minister, I won’t be part of the cabinet. That question will arise only if he becomes CM. I’m still in Congress. The party hasn’t done anything to me, but some people have conspired against me,” he said.

Rajanna had openly challenged Shivakumar and later got sacked from the cabinet following his statement contradicting the Leader of the Opposition (LoP) Rahul Gandhi’s stand on the voter fraud issue.

He further said he’s still active in politics and denied rumours of joining another political party.

His statement came after Siddaramaiah’s son Yathindra said that his father would complete the term.

“Yathindra Siddaramaiah’s statement is his personal view. Siddaramaiah can’t intimidate the high command, and the high command won’t abandon him,” he maintained.

Regarding the choice of Home Minister G. Parameshwara for the CM post, Rajanna said that the post of Chief Minister shouldn’t be given to someone just because he is a Dalit.

He said that Parameshwara led the party to victory in 2013, and his contribution is significant.

Responding to Congress MLA H.C. Balakrishna’s statement that Rajanna should clarify which party he’s in, Rajanna said that he has been in Congress for 15 years, saying that Balakrishna can make whatever silly statements he wants.

Balakrishna is a staunch supporter of Shivakumar.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, reacting to his son Yathindra’s statement, maintained that he would abide by whatever decision the high command takes.

Earlier, responding to questions on the leadership tussle within the ruling Congress party, MLC Yathindra Siddaramaiah, stated that those predicting a change in the Chief Minister’s position are “dreaming”.

Congress leaders back ‘Operation Sindoor’, hail Indian armed forces

New Delhi, May 7 (IANS) In the wake of the Indian Army’s successful execution of Operation Sindoor, a targeted strike on terror infrastructure deep inside Pakistan, senior Congress leaders have voiced strong support for the armed forces and commended the operation.

Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit expressed his views while awaiting official confirmation from military sources. “We’ve heard the Army will brief at 10 a.m. We’ll wait for more information on targets, objectives, and achievements,” Dikshit stated.

“Initial reports suggest 8-9 terrorist hideouts, including Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Taiba headquarters, were attacked, possibly via missiles. If these reports are confirmed, it’s commendable. I congratulate the Indian Army, Navy, and all involved for their efforts.”

Later, reiterating the importance of strategic precision, Dikshit added: “From what I’ve seen, it’s clearly stated that the attack targeted terrorist hideouts, training camps, and operational bases. It was a precise strike, similar to Balakot, where terrorists were present. No civilian areas were targeted. Pakistan’s response will be known with time. However, the targets chosen were precise and strategic.”

Congress’s Uttar Pradesh State President Ajay Rai also expressed unflinching support for the military action, highlighting the party’s consistent demand for a strong stance against terrorism.

“Certainly, we wanted the Rafale, brought in for the nation’s defence, to take proactive action, eliminate terrorists, and deal with countries that shelter terrorism. That action has been taken, which is exactly what the entire country desired,” Rai said.

“When we met the families of the victims, they expressed their wish for immediate retribution for their sons, husbands, and innocent citizens who were killed. We have been consistently raising this demand. For this very reason, I brought up this issue, and I want to commend the valour of our armed forces,” he added.

The Indian government confirmed that all nine targets were successfully hit during Tuesday night’s operation, which came in response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 civilians, including one Nepali national.

Notably, the government emphasised that no civilian or military infrastructure was affected, underlining India’s intention to avoid escalation while holding perpetrators accountable.
