‘Ambedkar’s ideals continue to inspire nation’: MP CM Mohan Yadav pays homage at Mhow memorial

Indore, April 14 (IANS) Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav said on Tuesday that B.R. Ambedkar laid a strong foundation for India’s democratic system through the Constitution, and his ideals continue to guide the nation.

He urged people to follow Babasaheb Ambedkar’s path of equality, social harmony, and unity to build an inclusive society.

The Chief Minister made these remarks while addressing a gathering on the occasion of Ambedkar’s 135th birth anniversary during his visit to the grand memorial built at his birthplace in Ambedkar Nagar (Mhow).

Earlier, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav visited the memorial complex and offered floral tributes to the statue of Dr. Ambedkar.

He also paid respects at the site where an urn containing Babasaheb’s ashes has been preserved, a place considered highly sacred by followers.

The Chief Minister toured the premises and reviewed arrangements as a large number of devotees and Buddhist monks gathered to mark the occasion.

The memorial at Mhow, developed at Ambedkar’s birthplace, has become a major pilgrimage site, attracting visitors from across the country, especially on his birth anniversary.

Across Madhya Pradesh, several programmes such as rallies, wreath-laying ceremonies, and public gatherings are being organised with enthusiasm to commemorate the day.

Union Minister of State for Women and Child Development Savitri Thakur, State Water Resources Minister Tulsiram Silawat, and BJP MLA Usha Thakur, along with other public representatives, were present during the event.

Meanwhile, Madhya Pradesh Congress President Jitu Patwari also visited Mhow and paid tribute to Dr. Ambedkar.

Speaking to the media, Patwari alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was engaging in politics in the name of Ambedkar and raised concerns over issues related to the Constitution, reservation, and social justice.

The occasion saw a blend of devotion and political reactions, as leaders across party lines paid homage to one of India’s foremost architects of democracy.

Muhammad Shariq, a resident of Uttar Pradesh, had reached the border with his two sisters, Nabila Raj and Sharmin Irfan, both of whom have been married in Pakistan.

They had come to India on a 45-day visa to visit their sick mother, but now they are unable to return to Pakistan.

Speaking to IANS, Shariq said, “Their passports are Indian, but they are married in Pakistan, and their children live there. They are being stopped from crossing the border because of this passport issue.”

The sisters, visibly anxious, explained how their situation had taken a turn for the worse.

Nabila said, “I am originally from Delhi, but I got married 18 years ago in Karachi. I have four children. Two are in Pakistan, and two are here with me in India. My eldest son was paralysed after an accident, and he has been in that condition for two years now. He needs me terribly. Every day he asks, ‘Mamma, when will you return?’ He’s not well, and it breaks my heart to hear him cry. But now, the Pakistani government is not allowing us to return, and it’s causing so much grief to my children.”

She continued, “We didn’t know about the deadline of April 30. The Pakistani High Commission called us and told us that April 30 was the last day to cross the border. We rushed to the border, hoping to make it in time. But we’ve been here since April 30 morning and we still haven’t been allowed to cross.”

Her sister Sharmin added, “We did not know that the deadline for crossing the border was on April 30. Had we known, we would have made sure to arrive earlier. But now, here we are, unable to go back. Our children are waiting for us, and we’re just caught in this bureaucratic mess.”

The situation at the border is tense and both Nabila and Sharmin’s hopes of reuniting with their children are hanging by a thread.

There are many families like theirs, separated by the complexities of visas, passports and missed deadlines.

On one side of the border, children wait in Pakistan for their mothers, who are stuck in India. On the other side, there are mothers who are waiting for their children, separated by the rigid lines drawn by governments of both nations. The emotional toll on these families is immense, with little hope of reconciliation.

In the midst of all this, people on both sides of the border are left with feelings of helplessness and frustration. The walls that separate India and Pakistan have done more than just divide nations, they have torn families apart, leaving them yearning for reunification.

Nabila summed up the experience with a heavy heart: “All we want is to be with our children in Pakistan. We are not asking for anything more. We just want to go back to Pakistan where our children are waiting for us.”

This incident serves as a poignant reminder of the human cost of political boundaries. While governments continue to draw lines on maps, it’s ordinary families that bear the brunt, unable to cross these lines to be with their loved ones.

MP: Rewarded female Maoist surrenders, hands over INSAS rifle

Bhopal/Balaghat, Nov 2 (IANS) In a significant breakthrough for security forces combating Maoist insurgency, a rewarded female Maoist named Sunita surrendered before police authorities in Madhya Pradesh’s Balaghat district, officials said on Sunday.

The surrender took place at the Chauriya Camp of the Pitkona police outpost under Lanji police station, marking a major success in the region’s ongoing anti-Maoist operations across various states.

She surrendered on Saturday evening.

Sunita, aged 22, hails from the Veerman Indravati area of Bijapur district in Chhattisgarh.

She laid down arms and handed over an INSAS rifle along with three magazines to the police, Rakesh Kumar Pandro, Balaghat Additional Superintendent of Police, Anti-Maoist operation, told IANS.

Her surrender is being seen as a strategic blow to the Maoist organisation, given her deep involvement and operational role within the group.

According to the senior official, Sunita had joined the Maoist ranks in 2022.

She underwent rigorous six-month training in the Maad region, after which she was appointed as a personal security guard to Central Committee member Ramder, a notorious figure in the Maoist hierarchy.

Her association with Ramder placed her in the inner circle of the organisation’s leadership, and she remained active in the Indravati and Maad regions before moving to the Darreksa area of the Maoist Communist Centre zone with an 11-member team.

Sunita held the rank of ACM (Area Committee Member), a position of considerable influence within the Maoist structure.

In this role, she was responsible for recruiting new members from rural areas, disseminating propaganda material, and keeping tabs on police movements.

Her surrender, therefore, not only deprives the Maoists of a trained cadre but also disrupts their recruitment and surveillance operations in the region.

Police officials believe that Sunita’s decision to surrender reflects growing disillusionment among lower-rung Maoist members and the effectiveness of outreach and rehabilitation efforts.

Her surrender is expected to encourage others to follow suit, especially those who have been coerced into joining the movement.

The Balaghat police have assured that Sunita will be provided assistance under the state’s surrender and rehabilitation policy.

Her cooperation is also likely to aid intelligence efforts aimed at dismantling Maoist networks operating across the border regions of Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.

With this development, security forces have not only neutralised a key operative but also sent a strong message to the Maoist establishment about the tightening grip of law enforcement in Maoist-affected zones.

Bihar: Speeding car mows down six in Patna; 1 dead, 5 injured

Patna, Dec 8 (IANS) A road tragedy shocked Patna when an out-of-control car ran over six pedestrians in the upscale Gola Road locality under the jurisdiction of the Danapur police station area in Bihar’s Patna.

Sixty-year-old Chansi Rai succumbed to his injuries, while five others were critically injured and admitted to the Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH).

The incident took place near Jhakri Mahadev Temple on Gola Road, and disturbing CCTV visuals have now emerged.

The video shows three young men standing at the roadside with a dog nearby. Suddenly, a speeding black sedan appears, runs over the dog, and then hits four people in one sweep. The dog is seen writhing in pain under the wheels.

The car halts briefly, revealing a man trapped under the front wheel. As two men approach the driver, the driver accelerates again, crushing the trapped man a second time.

Bystanders can be seen trying to stop the vehicle—some even strike the car with their hands—but the driver moves ahead recklessly, runs over another person, and then speeds toward JP Ganga Path, also known as Marine Drive.

Critically injured Chansi Rai was rushed to the Military Hospital and later shifted to a private hospital in Raja Bazaar, where he succumbed on Monday morning.

Danapur police and traffic officials reached the spot shortly after the incident.

Based on CCTV footage, the vehicle’s number plate was identified, and the car was tracked moving toward Marine Drive.

Danapur SHO Prashant Bhardwaj confirmed, “We have the registration number of the vehicle and are scanning CCTV footage to trace the car and its driver.”

“A case of rash and negligent driving has been registered. Arrest will be made soon,” Bhardwaj said.

The brutal incident has once again raised serious concerns about pedestrian safety on Bihar’s roads, where speeding, reckless driving, and lack of enforcement continue to endanger lives.
