Andhra Pradesh CM to meet Amit Shah, discuss state-related projects

Amaravati, May 10 (IANS) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu will visit Delhi on Monday to meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah and some other Central ministers to discuss various state-related projects.

The Chief Minister will leave Hyderabad for Delhi on Monday morning and is scheduled to meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah at 11:30 a.m. Later, the Chief Minister will also hold a meeting with Union Jal Shakti Minister C. R. Patil.

The Chief Minister is expected to discuss various state-related projects and funding matters with the Central ministers.

Representatives of the World Bank will meet the Chief Minister at 3 p.m. Later, he will attend the CII Business Summit at the Taj Palace.

Later, the Chief Minister will meet members of NITI Aayog, including Prime Minister’s Economic Advisory Council Chairman S. Mahendra Dev

Meanwhile, Chandrababu Naidu has expressed his delight over the government programmes in his constituency, Kuppam, which received national awards.

“It is heartening that government programmes being implemented in Kuppam are receiving national recognition. It is immensely gratifying that Kuppam has secured third place in the country under the “Nanaji Deshmukh Sarvottam Panchayat Sustained Development Award-2025” and won a cash prize of Rs 1.50 crore. Kuppam has demonstrated how results turn out when development is coupled with dedication. Congratulations to each and every individual responsible for this success. Likewise, thanks to the people of Kuppam, who are fully cooperating with government efforts. Let us continue working with the same zeal and establish the Kuppam constituency as a role model for the entire nation,” the Chief Minister posted on X.

“The coalition government’s efforts, with village development as its goal, are gaining national recognition and honour. Securing second place at the national level in the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Panchayat Sathat Vikas Award-2025 and the Nanaji Deshmukh Sarvottam Panchayat Sathat Puraskar-2025 awards is a matter of pride for the state,” wrote Chandrababu Naidu.

He congratulated Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan for leading the Panchayati Raj Department most effectively and steering it on the path of progress.

“My best wishes to the Srungavaram, Bokka Sampalem, Chemullapalli, and Gundamala gram panchayats that have won awards in various categories. Heartfelt congratulations to each and every stakeholder in this achievement,” CM Naidu added.

J&K Crime Branch files charge sheet against two in fake govt job scam case

Srinagar, Dec 18 (IANS) The Crime Branch of J&K Police has submitted a charge sheet against two accused in the fake government job scam case, officials said on Thursday.

A statement by the Crime Branch Kashmir said, “The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) Kashmir of Crime Branch Kashmir has filed a charge sheet in FIR No. 08/2024 under Sections 420 and 120-B IPC against two accused persons in connection with a cheating and conspiracy case involving a fake promise of a government job. The charge sheet has been presented before the Hon’ble Court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Budgam, for judicial determination.”

The case owes its origin to a written complaint alleging that Ishrat Bano, daughter of Mohd Ayoub Bhat, a resident of Zirhama, District Kupwara, dishonestly induced the complainant to part with a sum of Rs 11,00,000 on the false pretext that her husband would arrange a government job for him.

“Acting on this assurance, the complainant transferred the said amount into a bank account. Despite repeated assurances, neither was any government job arranged nor was the money returned,” the statement said.

Upon receipt of the complaint, a detailed probe was initiated by the Economic Offences Wing, Kashmir. During the investigation, it surfaced that the amount was credited into the bank account of accused Gulzar Ahmad Wani alias Shahid, son of Shamas Din Wani, a resident of Zirhama/Liderwan, District Kupwara.

The probe further revealed that there existed no husband-wife relationship between the accused Gulzar Ahmad Wani alias Shahid and Ishrat Bano, exposing the conspiracy and fraudulent intent behind the transaction.

“The investigation established prima facie involvement of both accused in acts of cheating and criminal conspiracy. Consequently, the case was registered at Police Station EOW Kashmir (Crime Branch Kashmir) and, after completion of the investigation, the allegations were found to be proved. Accordingly, the charge sheet has been submitted before the competent court for judicial adjudication,” the statement added.

India’s private sector output surged to 6-month high in Feb: HSBC survey

New Delhi, Feb 21 (IANS) Private sector output in India increased at the fastest pace in six months during February, amid a quicker expansion in services activity, according to HSBC’s flash PMI data survey released on Friday.

The data also indicated stronger growth of aggregate sales, which exerted upward pressure on operating capacities and prompted companies to step up hiring.

Price indices moved in opposite directions, with a slowdown in cost inflation contrasting with a faster upturn in prices charged for goods and services.

The HSBC Flash India Composite Output Index – that measures the month-on-month change in the combined output of India’s manufacturing and service sectors – rose to 60.6 in February, up from a final reading of 57.7 in January. This is the fastest rise in private sector activity since August 2024.

The rate of growth was also well above its long-run average. Service providers noted a quicker increase than manufacturers, and one that was the strongest in just under a year, the report states.

Factory orders rose sharply, albeit at a softer pace than in January. The slowdown was often attributed to competitive pressures. On the other hand, service providers welcomed the steepest upturn in new business intakes since August 2024. At the composite level, the rate of growth improved to a six-month high, according to the report.

Looking ahead, private sector companies were strongly upbeat towards output prospects. The overall level of business sentiment was a tick above that seen in January, to reach its highest mark since November 2024.

The improvement in confidence was centred at goods producers. Finally, manufacturing-only data showed that companies further lifted buying levels in attempts to raise input inventories. While stocks of purchases did increase in February, holdings of finished products fell further. Concurrently, as has now been the case for a whole year, suppliers’ delivery times shortened.

The rate of inflation was moderate by historical standards, however, and retreated to a four-month low. Cost pressures were more intense at services firms than at goods producers, with the former also signalling greater outlays on food, the survey added.

Probe Rs 2,000 crore cash stockpile by DMK ahead of Assembly polls: TN BJP urges ECI

Chennai, Feb 12 (IANS) The Tamil Nadu unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has levelled serious allegations against the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), accusing it of amassing nearly Rs 2,000 crore to influence voters ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections, and has urged the Election Commission of India (ECI) to immediately intervene.

In a statement issued on Thursday, BJP spokesperson A.N.S. Prasad claimed that the ruling party was engaging in large-scale electoral malpractice and demanded a statewide investigation, raids, and seizure of what he described as “illicit funds meant for voter inducement”.

The BJP alleged that cash distribution networks were being organised at the booth level across constituencies. It specifically pointed to Thiruvidanthai near Mamallapuram, where party workers were allegedly trained to coordinate voter payments.

The party leader further claimed that large sums of money had been hidden in several constituencies, including Kolathur, represented by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin.

According to Prasad, these activities amount to violations of the Representation of the People Act and provisions of the law relating to bribery and corrupt electoral practices.

The party has called for forensic audits and criminal proceedings against those involved.

Prasad also urged the Election Commission’s oversight team, currently in Chennai for poll preparedness reviews in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, to invoke its powers under Article 324 of the Constitution to ensure free and fair elections.

He requested Tamil Nadu Chief Electoral Officer Archana Patnaik to brief the Commission on what the BJP termed a “deteriorating electoral climate”, citing past instances of significant cash seizures during elections.

The BJP framed the issue as part of a broader political battle between what it called the NDA’s “development-oriented governance model” and the DMK’s “corruption-driven administration”.

The party expressed confidence that the AIADMK-BJP alliance would gain public support in the 2026 elections.

Political observers note that charges of cash-for-votes have frequently surfaced during Tamil Nadu elections, prompting heightened monitoring by enforcement agencies and the Election Commission.

With the Assembly polls approaching, calls for stricter vigilance and transparency are expected to intensify across the state’s political spectrum.
