Palani: Former Tamil Nadu BJP president and ex-IPS officer K. Annamalai participated in an initiative organised by the WTL Foundation to clean the sacred Shanmuga River in Palani and dedicate it for public use.
In a statement, Annamalai said the river was closely linked to Palani’s spiritual heritage and the livelihoods of local people. He emphasised that protecting and restoring waterbodies was essential to conserving the environment and preserving the region’s cultural legacy.
Describing environmental protection as a people’s movement, Annamalai said efforts to safeguard and clean rivers such as the Vaigai and Shanmuga were crucial to protecting nature and heritage for future generations.

He particularly appreciated the contribution of Nimal Raghavan for his dedication to the restoration and protection of waterbodies.
Annamalai expressed hope that voluntary social service initiatives would continue to grow into a broader public movement focused on environmental conservation and building a prosperous Tamil Nadu for future generations.
He said such efforts should continue without expectations, with the aim of creating a cleaner environment and preserving natural resources for coming generations.
