Arunachal CM highlights sports, education reforms, and youth opportunities​

Itanagar, April 16 (IANS) Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Thursday said the state has significantly improved its sports performance over the past decade, including securing the fifth rank nationally and emerging as the top performer in the Northeast during the Khelo India Tribal Games.​

Inaugurating three major infrastructure facilities at Dera Natung Government College in Itanagar, the Chief Minister encouraged students to actively participate in sports, emphasising that sports instil discipline and leadership qualities and promote a healthy lifestyle.​

Khandu also informed students about the state government’s scholarship initiative for those securing admission to the world’s top 150 universities, under which the government provides full sponsorship. He urged students to take full advantage of the scheme and pursue opportunities for global exposure.​

Highlighting the government’s priorities, the Chief Minister said that the education and healthcare sectors have consistently received focused attention, with sustained efforts to bridge infrastructure gaps across educational institutions.

He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting the future needs of Dera Natung Government College, assuring that any emerging infrastructure requirements, including additional classrooms for newly introduced departments, would be addressed in a timely manner.​

Paying tribute to the late Dera Natung, former Education Minister and a prominent leader of the Nyishi community, the Chief Minister said the institution named after him continues to uphold his vision of empowering youth through quality education.

He congratulated the Principal and faculty for maintaining strong academic growth, noting that the college currently caters to over 4,600 students across Arts, Science, and Commerce streams, supported by 14 academic departments.​

Emphasising the importance of sports infrastructure, Khandu stated that the newly inaugurated Badminton-cum-Judo Hall and Recreation Hall would play a crucial role in promoting students’ holistic development.​

Speaking on education reforms, he highlighted the rollout of “Mission Shikshit Arunachal 2029,” aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. He said the government is simultaneously upgrading infrastructure and implementing academic reforms to align education standards with global benchmarks.​

The Chief Minister also underscored the growing importance of technology, artificial intelligence, and machine learning in education, urging students to adopt technological advancements responsibly. He informed that Artificial Intelligence initiatives and Vidya Samiksha Kendras have already been introduced to enable real-time monitoring and improvement of educational outcomes.​

Announcing further initiatives, Khandu said that two science centres with planetariums will be established in Namsai and Dirang, with approvals already granted, to promote scientific curiosity and learning among students.​

Emphasising skill development, he highlighted emerging opportunities in sectors such as hydropower, micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), startups, and entrepreneurship. He encouraged students to focus on skill-based education and aspire to become job creators rather than job seekers.​

He also referred to various government initiatives, including the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Swavalamban Yojana, startup support programmes, and the Arunachal Pradesh Investment and Innovation Park.​

The Chief Minister further announced the creation of an “Arunachal Creative Economy” cell within the Chief Minister’s Office to promote local talent in fields such as arts, music, weaving, and other creative sectors, and to provide global platforms for their growth.​

Reiterating the government’s commitment to youth development, Khandu urged students to remain disciplined, focused, and visionary in their pursuits.​

HM Shah acknowledged Bihar’s historical contributions to the nation, emphasising the state’s significant role in shaping both ancient and modern India.

In his post, Amit Shah wrote, “Heartiest greetings of ‘Bihar Day’ to all the people of Bihar.”

“Bihar, a land of knowledge, tradition, and cultural heritage, has always provided leadership and new energy to the country. From the glorious chapters of history to the creation of modern India, Bihar has left its indelible mark in every field. Under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the NDA government is committed to taking Bihar to new heights of progress, prosperity, and self-reliance. I wish happiness, peace, and progress to the people of the state,” he wrote in the post on X.

Bihar’s Chief Minister, Nitish Kumar, also joined in the celebrations, offering his best wishes and highlighting the state’s bright future. In his message, CM Kumar reaffirmed the state’s glorious history while emphasising the government’s efforts to build a prosperous future for Bihar.

On X, Nitish Kumar wrote, “Hearty congratulations and best wishes on the occasion of Bihar Diwas. Bihar has a glorious history and we are currently preparing a glorious future for Bihar with our determination. I call upon all of you to participate in realising the dream of a developed Bihar. Together we will take Bihar’s pride to new heights.”

Jaipur among India’s top 20 ‘cleanest’ cities

Jaipur, July 17 (IANS) Jaipur has achieved a significant milestone by entering the list of the top-20 “cleanest cities” in the country for the first time under the Swachh Survekshan 2024-25.

Jaipur Municipal Corporation Greater secured the 16th rank, while Jaipur Municipal Corporation Heritage stood at 20th among cities with a population of more than 10 lakh.

Meanwhile, Dungarpur has made Rajasthan proud by being included in the prestigious Swachh Super League of cities with a population between 20,000 to 50,000 across India.

As per the state-wise rankings, Dungarpur has been declared the cleanest city in Rajasthan, followed by Jaipur Greater at second place and Jaipur Heritage at third.

Udaipur ranked fourth, Sikar fifth, Jaisalmer sixth, Bharatpur seventh, Churu eighth, Nathdwara ninth, and Pushkar tenth.

Jaipur Municipal Corporation Greater was honoured with the title of “Promising Clean City” in Rajasthan. Both Greater and Heritage were awarded a 3-star rating in the national survey.

Jaipur Greater earned 91 per cent in door-to-door garbage collection, 89 per cent in waste segregation, 75 per cent in waste generation and processing and 100 per cent in cleanliness of residential and commercial areas Jaipur Heritage scored 91 per cent in garbage collection, 50 per cent in segregation, 86 per cent in waste generation and processing and 100 per cent in residential and commercial area cleanliness Special recognition was given for installing separate dustbins for wet and dry waste and for ensuring the safety of sanitation workers involved in sewer and drain cleaning.

Key projects like the waste-to-energy plant and construction waste processing facilities helped both municipal bodies improve their scores significantly.

Efforts were led by former Greater Commissioner Rukmani Riyad and Heritage Commissioner Arun Kumar Hasija, focusing on removing open garbage dumps and implementing efficient waste collection systems, including night sweeping. The Swachh Survey assessed cleanliness levels based on waste management, public toilet facilities, urban beautification, and public awareness.

Both corporations emphasised citizen participation and awareness drives, contributing to the improved rankings. The award ceremony was held at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, where President Droupadi Murmu presented the honours to the winning cities.

Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar was also present. Notably, in the 2023 rankings, Jaipur Greater and Heritage had ranked 173rd and 171st, respectively. Their leap into the top 20 this year marks a remarkable turnaround in the city’s cleanliness standards.

Delhi Minister Kapil Mishra attends Bharat Parv 2025 near Statue of Unity in Gujarat

New Delhi, Nov 10 (IANS) Delhi Minister of Tourism Kapil Mishra visited the Bharat Parv 2025 organised at the Statue of Unity in Ekta Nagar, Gujarat, and encouraged the city’s artists who took part in the ‘Delhi Day’ event, an official said.

Mishra attended the event to encourage Delhi’s artists and to showcase the capital’s rich cultural talent on a national platform, he said.

The Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, is organising Bharat Parv this year for the first time outside Delhi.

The grand event, organised by the Ministry of Tourism in collaboration with the Government of Gujarat, features celebrations dedicated to different states of India. As part of this series, ‘Delhi Day’ was celebrated on Monday, an official said.

A troupe of 65 artists from Delhi participated in Bharat Parv 2025, presenting the capital’s vibrant cultural heritage through music, dance, folk art, and theatrical performances. Gujarat’s Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi was also present on this occasion.

Mishra encouraged the participating artists from Delhi who brought alive the capital’s cultural richness through music, dance, folk art, and theatre.

This year’s edition of the Bharat Parv is especially dedicated to the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the Iron Man of India. His visionary leadership and ideals of national unity laid the foundation of a strong India — a spirit that Bharat Parv 2025 seeks to celebrate.

In his address, Mishra said, “Bharat Parv is not just a festival of culture; it is a celebration of unity, pride, and identity. For Delhi’s artists, this is a proud opportunity to present their talent before the entire nation.”

He added, “Delhi is the heart of India — its art, music, and traditions embody the diversity of the entire nation. When our artists perform at a historic site like Gujarat, it becomes not just an exchange of culture but a celebration of emotional unity.”
