Kolkata, July 19 (IANS) BJP leader Abhijit Das alias Bobby on Sunday lodged a complaint at Nodakhali police station in South 24 Parganas district against Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee, alleging corruption in the distribution of financial compensation after Cyclone Amphan in 2020.
He alleged that around Rs 30 crore was embezzled in the Budge Budge-II block through the creation of fake documents.
The BJP leader claimed that most of the money provided by the central government to victims of Cyclone Amphan was not received by the intended recipients.
He said applications were submitted under different names using the same number or address, and money was distributed based on those applications.
“In this way, around Rs 30 crore was embezzled,” he alleged, adding that all this money entered fake accounts on Abhishek’s “recommendation.”
A complaint was filed against the then-BDO of that block and several other administrative officials. He claimed that Abhishek had committed Rs 250 crore in corruption in the distribution of financial compensation after Cyclone Amphan.
On the other hand, another complaint was filed against Abhishek Banerjee at Bishnupur police station in the same district on charges of issuing threats. The complaint was filed by Bishnupur BJP leader Abhijit Sardar, who was the BJP candidate from that constituency in the 2026 Assembly elections.
The complaint was lodged in response to a comment Abhishek made on Saturday. While talking about the demolition of his party office in Amtala, the Diamond Harbour MP alleged that not only the administration but also BJP leaders were “rallying” for his office.
He then said in a threatening tone: “Under the same law, under the same section, under which the Trinamool party office is being demolished today, when the government changes in the state, not a single BJP party office will remain in West Bengal.”
In response to that comment, Abhijit Sardar filed a complaint with the Bishnupur police station. He claimed that such statements by an MP can instil fear among political workers and administrative officials. Therefore, a request was made to look into the matter and take necessary legal action.
According to police sources, a complaint has been filed. The matter is being investigated in light of that complaint.
