Bengal to witness inclusive development under PM Modi, move towards ‘Sonar Bangla’: Delhi BJP chief

Rishikesh, May 8 (IANS) Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Virendra Sachdeva on Friday hailed the party’s victory in West Bengal as a “historic moment” for the party and said the state would now move towards “Sonar Bangla” with inclusive development under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Speaking to IANS, Sachdeva said the BJP government coming to power in West Bengal was a matter of pride and tribute to Syama Prasad Mukherjee’s vision and sacrifice.

“It is a very big day for us to form the government in West Bengal. The land of Syama Prasad Mukherjee, the ideology he gave birth to is now being realised, and the party also pays tribute to his sacrifice. This is an emotional day for every party worker,” he added.

He alleged that Bengal had long suffered from lack of development, exploitation and infiltration, and expressed confidence that the state would now witness inclusive growth under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“Bengal, which has been deprived of development, which has been known for exploitation, and which has been known for intrusion, should now see all-encompassing development under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi,” Sachdeva affirmed.

Reiterating the BJP’s commitment towards the state, the Delhi BJP President said the party has consistently promised to transform Bengal into a “Sonar Bangla”.

“We have always assured the people of Bengal, and we continue to reassure them that we are committed to transforming Bengal into ‘Sonar Bangla’ and ensuring that every resident of the state gets their rightful due. The BJP is working dedicatedly towards this goal,” he added.

Commenting on the broader electoral scenario, Sachdeva said the election outcomes reflected the strength of Indian democracy and the people’s mandate across different regions.

“This is the beauty of our democracy that people in every region make their own decisions, and that should be accepted,” he added.

Highlighting the BJP’s stellar poll performance in multiple states, Sachdeva noted, “In the five states, we have been successful in forming the government in Bengal. In Assam, the government has been formed for the third time. In Puducherry, it has been formed for the second time.”

He also claimed that the BJP had improved its support base in Tamil Nadu and Kerala compared to previous state elections.

“The Bharatiya Janata Party has received more support compared to before in Tamil Nadu and Kerala,” Sachdeva said.

New Delhi, Oct 2 (IANS) As the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) marks its centenary year, several BJP leaders extended greetings and described the organisation’s contribution to the nation’s development in various ways.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah said the Sangh’s journey has been a historic one. In a post on X, he said in Hindi (loosely translated), “From the leaders occupying the highest positions in the country to the grassroots workers, the historic journey of the Sangh’s century has shaped numerous such personalities whose life’s goal has been nation-building.”

HM Shah cited several instances which he said exhibit this. “Be it the Hyderabad liberation struggle, the resistance against the Emergency, the Goa liberation movement, assistance to brave soldiers in wars, opposition to Article 370, the anti-infiltrator movement in the Northeast, volunteers have elevated the tasks of nation-building to new heights with sacrifice and dedication.”

He said the RSS workers have immensely helped whenever the need arose. “Be it desert or rugged forests, the inaccessible peaks of the Himalayas or remote villages, the Sangh has everywhere hoisted the flag of devotion and service to the ‘great sacred land’.”

The Union Minister said that by weaving forest-dwellers, Backward Classes, Dalits, deprived sections, and all strata of the country into the thread of unity, this centenary journey of the Sangh, which tirelessly contributes to the vision of a nation imbued with self-respect, will be written in golden letters in history.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh wrote an article on the RSS’ contribution to nation-building and extended his heartfelt congratulations to all volunteers.

Sharing the article on his X handle, he said, “The 100 years of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh are not merely the journey of an organisation, but an inspiring saga of nation-building.”

He wrote in Hindi (loosely translated) that in this one century, the RSS has worked to strengthen the nation by establishing values such as character, discipline, unity, and service in society.

The Defence Minister said that whether it be a natural disaster, a social crisis, or a call for nation-building — the Sangh’s volunteers have always stood in the front lines, demonstrating the power of service, dedication, and organisation.

They have made cultural pride, social harmony, and devotion to the motherland the aim of their lives. “I myself am a volunteer of the Sangh, and it is my good fortune that I have experienced its tradition of service and stream of sacrifice up close,” Singh wrote on X.

He said that as the Sangh enters its centenary year, it is not just a memory of the past but a resolve for building a strong and self-reliant India.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also wrote an article on the RSS’ centenary celebrations and shared it on his X handle.

He said that the 100 years of RSS have been about discipline, service, and nation-building. “ A hundred years of the Sangh testify to its disciplined expansion, tireless service, and the nurturing of nation-loving citizens,” the CM said.

The RSS launched its centenary year celebrations on Vijayadashami in Nagpur on Thursday, commemorating 100 years since it was founded by Dr K.B. Hedgewar in 1925.

Unemployment rate of India’s youths has fallen from 17.8 pc to 10.2 pc: Minister

New Delhi, July 31 (IANS) The latest available annual Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS) reports show that the estimated Unemployment Rate (UR) for India’s youths in the 15-29 years age group has decreased from 17.8 per cent in 2017-18 to 10.2 per cent in 2023-24, the Parliament was informed on Thursday.

As per latest Annual PLFS Reports, the estimated Worker Population Ratio (WPR), indicating employment, including public and private sector, on usual status for persons of age 15 years and above has increased from 50.9 per cent in 2019-20 to 58.2 per cent in 2023-24, Minister of State for Labour and Employment Shobha Karandlaje said in a written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha.

In the case of rural areas, the estimated Worker Population Ratio (WPR), indicating employment, including public and private sectors, on usual status for persons aged 15 years and above, has increased from 53.3 per cent in 2019–20 to 62.1 per cent in 2023–24. In the case of urban areas, the estimate for employment has risen from 45.8 per cent to 49.4 per cent over this period, the minister said.

The latest available Annual PLFS reports also show that the estimated Unemployment Rate (UR) on usual status for persons aged 15 years and above has decreased from 6 per cent in 2017-18 to 3.2 per cent in 2023-24, the minister said.

The unincorporated non-agricultural sector employed more than 12 crore workers between October 2023 and September 2024, marking an increase of more than one crore workers from 2022-23, reflecting a robust 10.01 per cent growth in the labour market, according to the Annual Survey of Unincorporated Sector Enterprises (ASUSE 2023-24).

The proportion of female workers to total workers has increased from 25.63 per cent in ASUSE 2022-23 to 28.12 per cent in ASUSE 2023-24. About 58 per cent of the establishments were headed by female proprietors in the Manufacturing sector during the survey period, the official survey stated.

Bihar: Armed robbery on R-Day shocks Jamui, ex-civil surgeon’s family sedated

Patna, Jan 26 (IANS) In a shocking incident from Gidhaur block in Bihar’s Jamui district, armed miscreants looted the house of former Civil Surgeon Dr Vijendra Satyarthi on Republic Day morning, openly posing a challenge to the police and administration.

According to information, around five armed and masked criminals broke into the house early in the morning after breaking the lock.

At gunpoint, they took the entire family hostage and carried out the robbery.

The criminals allegedly injected Dr Vijendra Satyarthi and his wife, Pushpam Satyarthi, with sedatives, rendering them unconscious.

When their son, Dr Vikram Satyarthi, came out of the bathroom, he too was forcibly injected and fell unconscious.

At around 8.30 a.m., neighbours noticed something amiss and entered the house, where they found all three family members lying unconscious. The incident triggered panic in the area.

On receiving information, Jhajha MLA Damodar Rawat and a large number of local residents reached the spot.

The unconscious family members were immediately rushed to the Sadar Hospital, where a team of doctors is currently treating them.

After regaining partial consciousness, Dr Vikram Satyarthi narrated the ordeal.

He said, “We had just woken up when five armed, masked men broke into our house. My parents and I were held hostage at gunpoint. After looting the house, they injected us with sedatives and made us unconscious.”

He further claimed that the criminals threatened them, saying there was Rs 80 lakh in the house and that someone had tipped them off.

The robbers allegedly told the family that they had received a contract to kill all three of them.

Dr Vikram said he overheard the criminals discussing among themselves that they were supposed to eliminate both father and son.

Gidhaur Police Station Sub-Inspector Jayprakash Singh said that all three victims are undergoing treatment and their statements will be recorded once they fully recover.

Police have begun examining CCTV footage from the surrounding areas and are investigating the case from all possible angles.

The incident has raised serious concerns over law and order in the region, especially as it occurred on Republic Day.
