BJP slams Telangana minister for ‘insulting’ remarks against Lord Ram

Hyderabad, May 6 (IANS) Telangana Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders has criticised the State Endowments Minister Konda Surekha for her allegedly insulting remarks against Lord Ram even as the Minister claimed that her comments were distorted.

The Minister said on Tuesday in a statement that some individuals were distorting and circulating the remarks she made on the occasion of the Farmers’ Mega Mela held at Warangal.

She clarified that the true intent of her remarks was to question the Central government and the State BJP leadership for showing negligence toward the development of temples in Telangana while allocating funds to other states and discriminating against Telangana.

The Congress leader said that as the Endowments Minister she was working with complete dedication.

She added that the state government allocated thousands of crores of rupees for the development of temples across Telangana.

Minister Surekha’s clarification came after BJP’s Telangana unit lashed out at her.

The BJP said that Konda Surekha is not the Endowments Minister but the God-insulting department Minister.

Alleging that Minister Surekha ridiculed Lord Ram, the BJP added that she had absolutely no moral right to continue as the Endowments Minister.

The party demanded the Minister to immediately and unconditionally apologise to Hindu society.

“Arrogant remarks by Minister Konda Surekha against Lord Ram! — By comparing the chant of ‘Jai Sri Ram’ to coins, she has spat venom on the sentiments of crores of Hindus. These arrogant words are a living testament to the Congress Party’s disdainful attitude towards Hindu gods. It is a grave tragedy that, serving as Minister for the sacred Endowments Department, she has insulted God Himself. Insulting Hindu gods for the sake of vote-bank politics is the true nature of Congress leaders,” a post from the official account of Telangana BJP on X.

Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Bandi Sanjay Kumar also criticised Minister Surekha for her alleged remarks.

“Attacking Hindutva isn’t a free pass anymore. Hindus are responding, and the pushback is visible in outcome of recent elections. Dharma finds its way,” the BJP leader said in a post on X.

Jagan Mohan Reddy, “Hindu bondhu” jibe – K. Chandrashekar Rao. Every time faith becomes a political punchline, voters seem to answer in their own way. Now if a Telangana Congress Minister links “Jai Shri Ram” to money… the trend is already visible on what follows,” Bandi Sanjay said.

The initiative, part of the outcome of the Rising Rajasthan Investment Summit, aims to equip over 400 candidates with essential soft skills and industry readiness, preparing them for employment in the home services sector. A two-month blended training module — delivered through both online and offline formats — will focus on communication, professionalism, teamwork, and customer service excellence.

After completion, candidates will be onboarded as certified service partners on the company’s platform, delivering services like appliance repair, salon-at-home, and cleaning in their local areas, reducing the need for migration and promoting local economic growth.

The Department of Skill, Employment & Entrepreneurship (DSEE), Government of Rajasthan, has signed this MoU with a leading digital home services platform. The collaboration is one of the early outcomes of the Rising Rajasthan Investment Summit and aims to bridge the gap between vocational training and employment for Industrial Training Institute (ITI) graduates through a structured soft skills and industry-readiness training program.

The initiative also opens pathways for some candidates to work internationally, allowing them to explore global opportunities while showcasing the state’s skilled workforce.

The MoU signing ceremony was attended by key officials, including Surendra Kumar Khandelwal (Director, Training), Neeraj Mathur (Joint Director), and Urvashi Sahay (Superintendent).

The initiative aligns with the Rajasthan Government’s mission to foster livelihood generation through innovative public-private partnerships, ensuring that skill-based education leads directly to sustainable employment in both local and international markets, said officials.

Ex-CM Biren Singh meets HM Shah, urges him to restore normalcy in Manipur

Imphal, June 11 (IANS) Former Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh on Wednesday said that he and BJP’s Rajya Sabha Member from the state, Maharaja Sanajaoba Leishemba, met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi and urged his intervention to restore normalcy in the state.

“We apprised him (HM Shah) about the prevailing situation in Manipur and urged the Home Minister to take steps to restore normalcy in Manipur,” Biren Singh told the media immediately after returning to Imphal from New Delhi on Wednesday.

The former Chief Minister said that the people of the state wanted a popular government in Manipur.

He said that illegal immigrants from across the border who are unlawfully staying in Manipur are a vital issue in dealing with the ethnic problems in Manipur.

Biren Singh, with the Rajya Sabha member, went to New Delhi on June 9 to apprise the central leaders about the state’s prevailing situation.

“I want to appeal to all concerned that a crucial period has been going on in Manipur, and everyone should be very careful and responsible while doing anything and speaking about the state affairs,” he told the media at the Imphal airport.

Urging calm, Biren Singh said that people should work together and shun all violence and harmful activities.

Biren Singh also met Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla on May 27 and discussed the restoration of peace and normalcy and other vital issues of the state.

A senior official had said that Biren Singh, who resigned as Chief Minister on February 9, four days before the promulgation of the President’s Rule in the trouble-torn state, requested Bhalla to take immediate steps to resolve the vital issues, including that of illegal immigrants.

Leishemba had earlier expressed hope that a popular government would be formed in the state within the next two months. He urged all political leaders to unite in dealing with the challenges the state has been facing.

“The President’s rule alone cannot resolve the prevailing issues. A popular government can function closely in tandem with the people and find a solution to the present ethnic crisis,” he had told the media.

BJP’s North East In-charge Sambit Patra also last month visited the state’s Kangpokpi and Churachandpur districts and met Kuki BJP MLAs Vungzagin Valte and Nemcha Kipgen and several Kuki-Zo and civil society organisations, including the Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU). Kipgen was the lone woman Minister in the Biren Singh-led government in Manipur. Patra also met Biren Singh and other leaders in Imphal.

The 60-member Manipur Assembly, which, after the promulgation of President’s Rule on February 13, has been put under suspended animation, has a tenure till 2027.

Tariq Anwar backs Rahul Gandhi’s charges against ECI, questions BJP’s defence

New Delhi, Sep 18 (IANS) Congress leader Tariq Anwar on Thursday strongly backed Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi’s allegations against the Election Commission of India (ECI), asserting that the poll panel appeared to be siding with the ruling BJP in the controversy over alleged voter manipulation in Karnataka’s Aland constituency.

Reacting to LoP Rahul Gandhi’s press conference earlier in the day, Anwar told IANS, “Those who indulge in theft will never accept their fault. The way Rahul Gandhi has brought this matter into the public domain makes it clear that the ECI is complicit. He has not said anything without documents or proof, and he presented everything in his press conference. While the ECI is giving clarifications, it must also initiate a proper investigation.”

On being asked about BJP leaders’ demand that LoP Gandhi approach the courts if he indeed has proof, the senior Congress leader shot back, “Why does the BJP need to speak on behalf of the ECI every time? Why does it act as the Commission’s spokesperson? This issue is between the Congress, the Opposition, and the ECI. The BJP’s constant defence of the ECI only shows there is a connection between the two.”

Turning to the controversy around the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar, Anwar clarified that the Congress is not against the exercise itself but against the manner in which it has been conducted.

“No one is opposing SIR. What we oppose is the process. In Bihar, the SIR was done in haste. People were not given adequate time, and it seems the Election Commission is in a hurry. We also want SIR across the country, but it should be carried out by taking people into confidence. Political parties, including the Opposition, must be consulted and involved,” he said.

Anwar’s remarks came amid escalating political sparring between the BJP and Congress over electoral roll revisions and LoP Gandhi’s explosive charge of “vote theft” in Karnataka.
