
Patna, June 8 (IANS) A major security breach has come to light in Bihar’s Bhagalpur district after unidentified thieves allegedly broke into the residence of Janata Dal (United) MP Ajay Kumar Mandal and carried out a theft, an official said on Monday.
The incident took place at the MP’s house in Bank Colony under the jurisdiction of the Tilkamanjhi police station, triggering concern among local residents and security agencies.
According to preliminary information, the burglars entered the residence during the night, stole valuables and fled the scene.
The most serious aspect of the incident is the reported theft of the official service pistol belonging to the MP’s security personnel, Niranjan Kumar, who was deployed at the residence.
The disappearance of an official firearm from the protected residence of a public representative has raised questions about the effectiveness of existing security arrangements and is being treated as a matter of serious concern by the authorities.
Soon after receiving information about the incident, a team from the Tilkamanjhi police station reached the spot and began an investigation.
The probe is being supervised by City Deputy Superintendent of Police Ajay Kumar Chaudhary.
Police officials said that CCTV footage from the surrounding area is being examined to identify the suspects.
Investigators are also relying on technical evidence and other available leads to trace those involved in the theft.
The incident has sparked widespread discussion in Bhagalpur, with many questioning how thieves were able to enter the residence of a sitting Member of Parliament and escape with a service weapon.
Officials have stated that all angles of the case are being thoroughly investigated and expressed confidence that the accused will be identified and arrested soon.
Meanwhile, security in the area has been tightened and law enforcement agencies have increased surveillance to monitor any suspicious activity.
An FIR has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Tilkamanjhi Police Station against unknown burglars.
