CM Samrat Choudhary visits Gopalganj; offers prayers at Thawe temple, inspects medical college site

Patna, Aug 12 (IANS) Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary visited Gopalganj on Wednesday for the first time since assuming office.

He received a warm welcome from Bharatiya Janata Party workers and local residents.

During his visit, Choudhary first offered prayers at the famous Thawe Durga Temple and sought blessings from Goddess Thawe Bhawani.

He performed special puja rituals amid the chanting of mantras by priests.

Elaborate security arrangements were made at the temple.

A large number of people gathered along the roads to catch a glimpse of the Chief Minister’s convoy.

District Magistrate Sameer Saurabh and Superintendent of Police Vinay Tiwari presented Samrat Choudhary with a picture of the Thawe temple.

After the temple visit, the Chief Minister travelled to Chanave village in Thawe block to inspect land identified for the proposed medical college near the local jail.

He received detailed information from officials about the availability of land, the proposed project and preparations for construction.

Bihar Education Minister Mithilesh Tiwari described the visit as significant, noting the religious importance of Goddess Thawe Bhawani for millions of devotees.

He expressed hope that the Bihar government would take important decisions regarding the development of the Thawe temple, tourism facilities and arrangements for pilgrims.

Tiwari also said that the medical college project could become a major achievement for Gopalganj.

He noted that the Chief Minister’s personal inspection of the site would help the state government determine the next steps.

Former Bihar Minister Janak Ram described Chief Minister Choudhary’s visit as ‘historic’.

He said it had created fresh hopes among local residents, particularly regarding the long-pending demand for a medical college.

The district administration made extensive security and logistical arrangements for the visit.

Local residents hope that the Chief Minister’s visit will accelerate the proposed medical college project as well as development and tourism-related works at the Thawe temple.

The Chief Minister spent around one-and-a-half hours in Gopalganj before returning to Patna.

New Delhi, June 23 (IANS) Speedy investigation of cases of sexual offences against women and children and the implementation of Fast Track Special Courts (FTSC) for their swift disposal will be in focus as Union Home Minister Amit Shah chairs the 25th meeting of the Central Zonal Council in Varanasi on Tuesday, an official said.

HM Shah is also expected to push for providing brick-and-mortar banking facilities within the designated area of every village and implementation of the Emergency Response Support System (ERSS-112), said the official on Monday.

Various regional-level common interest issues such as strengthening nutrition, education, health, electricity, urban planning, and the cooperative system may also feature in the discussions, he said.

The Central Zonal Council comprises Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Uttar Pradesh. This meeting is being organised by the Inter-State Council Secretariat under the Ministry of Home Affairs in collaboration with the Government of Uttar Pradesh.

The meeting will be attended by the Chief Ministers of the member states, along with two senior ministers from each state. The Chief Secretaries of the state governments and other senior officials, as well as senior officials from the Central Government, will also participate in the meeting.

The role of the Zonal Councils is advisory; however, over the past few years, these councils have proven to be an important factor in promoting healthy bonds of mutual understanding and cooperation in various fields.

With the cooperation of all state governments, central ministries, and departments, a total of 61 meetings of the various Zonal Councils and their permanent committees have been held in the last 11 years, said an official statement.

“Prime Minister Narendra Modi has emphasised the need to leverage cooperative and competitive federalism for the all-round development of the country,” it said.

With the belief that strong states make a strong nation, the Zonal Councils provide a structured mechanism for dialogue and discussion on issues affecting two or more states or the Centre and states, and through this, serve as an important platform to enhance mutual cooperation, it said.

Rajasthan should emerge as a global education hub, says Om Birla

Jaipur, April 22 (IANS) Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla said on Wednesday that Rajasthan has the potential to become a leading global hub of education, attracting students from across the world.

He emphasised that this vision can be realised through collective efforts, strong determination, and self-confidence.

Birla, along with Rajasthan Assembly Speaker Vasudev Devnani, inaugurated the new campus of Jayshree Periwal Global School on Wednesday.

Both dignitaries toured the modern premises and reviewed the state-of-the-art classrooms and facilities.

Addressing the gathering, Birla noted that India’s Constitution serves as a guiding light for democracies worldwide and described democracy as the nation’s greatest strength.

He called upon citizens to actively contribute to shaping the narrative of a rapidly transforming India.

Vasudev Devnani described the occasion as more than just the inauguration of a building, calling it the beginning of a gateway to India’s bright future.

He remarked that the campus reflects an environment where knowledge thrives.

Emphasising the broader meaning of education, Devnani said it is not limited to literacy but is a powerful force that awakens human potential and transforms individuals from ordinary to extraordinary.

Referring to India’s rich academic heritage, Rajasthan Assembly Speaker highlighted ancient centres of learning such as Nalanda and Takshashila, noting that India has historically been a global centre of knowledge.

He said that despite challenges over centuries, the country’s knowledge tradition has remained resilient.

“Today, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India is witnessing progress across economic, cultural, and spiritual spheres and moving toward the vision of a developed nation.”

Devnani urged students to stay connected with India’s traditions and values while pursuing modern education.

He encouraged them to use their knowledge and skills for nation-building.

Earlier, Jayshree Periwal Global School Chairperson Jayshree Periwal welcomed the guests and shared an overview of the institution.

CLAT-PG: Delhi HC issues notice on plea challenging ‘exorbitant’ confirmation fee

New Delhi, Jun 23 (IANS) The Delhi High Court on Monday agreed to examine a plea challenging the “exorbitant” non-refundable confirmation fee being levied by the Consortium of National Law Universities (NLUs) for Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) postgraduate admissions.

A bench of Justice Rajneesh Kumar Gupta issued notices to the Consortium of National Law Universities, the Bar Council of India (BCI), the University Grants Commission (UGC) and other respondents, and sought their responses in the matter by July 2.

The plea filed by advocate Siddharth R. Gupta contended that “the arbitrary level of exorbitant fees” in the name of non-refundable confirmation fee at every round of the counselling was not only unreasonable, but also violated Articles 14, 19(1)(g) and 21 of the Constitution.

It added that this non-refundable confirmation fee was being levied mechanically without even examining the suitability of a large number of candidates to bear the exorbitant expenditure of participating in the counselling and admission process.

As per the petition, the aforesaid “exorbitant fee” was also violative of the directions issued by the UGC since all the NLUs are bound by such directions under the provisions of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956.

The petitioner Jatin Shrivastava, a successful candidate of CLAT-PG examination, who has achieved 474 rank in the recently revised results, claimed that he is entirely dependent on education loan for pursuing his LLM degree, which would be sanctioned only after the he gets admission in any NLU of his choice and even the loan installments will be transferable only to the NLU concerned and not to the CLAT Consortium.

As per the plea, despite financial distress in his family, the petitioner has deposited the requisite counselling fees of Rs 30,000, and he chose to espouse the cause on behalf of all such large number of candidates who may be facing financial adversities to pay the exorbitant fees of Rs 20,000-40,000 per round of counselling.

Earlier on June 20, the matter was mentioned before a Vacation Bench of Justices Prathiba M Singh and Rajneesh Kumar Gupta, who directed listing it for hearing on Monday.
