CM Trophy: Raina, Mohanty named brand ambassadors for Odisha T20 League

Cuttack, Sep 11 (IANS) Former Indian cricketers Suresh Raina and Debashish Mohanty have been announced as the brand ambassadors of the Odisha T20 League 2026 – CM Trophy, which is scheduled to be held from September 20 to 29 at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack.

The appointment of the two former Indian cricketers will add further value to the tournament, which aims to provide a platform for young and emerging cricketers from Odisha to showcase their talent and gain valuable experience.

Six teams, Bhubaneswar Tigers, Puri Titans, Keonjhar Miners, Rourkela Superstars, Sambalpur Warriors and Kataka Panthers, will battle it out for the ultimate glory.

The tournament will get underway on September 20, with Sambalpur Warriors taking on Kataka Panthers in the opening game. The competition will feature a mix of league-stage action and knockout matches, with the team finishing at the top of the points table earning a direct place in the final at the Barabati Stadium, which has hosted international matches in the past.

The teams finishing second and third will face each other in the Qualifier, with the winner advancing to the summit clash. A women’s exhibition match will also be played on September 28, adding another attraction for cricket fans.

The grand final of the Odisha T20 League 2026 – CM Trophy is scheduled to be played on September 29 at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack, where the two best teams will battle for the title.

Speaking about coming on board as the brand ambassador of the league, Suresh Raina said, “Six teams will compete against each other, promising ten days of exciting and high-intensity cricket. It will be a great platform for players to showcase their talent and prove themselves in a competitive environment. So, mark your calendars and get ready for a blockbuster tournament. Jai Jagannath!”

Debashish Mohanty echoed similar sentiments and added, “The wait is finally over for cricket fans in Odisha. The Odisha T20 League – CM Trophy will be played from September 20 to 29 at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack, with six teams competing for the title. The tournament will give our players a strong platform to showcase their skills and compete in a high-pressure environment. I am thankful to the Odisha Cricket Association for its efforts in putting this tournament together. I am sure the league will provide plenty of exciting cricket and memorable moments for the fans. I urge everyone to mark the dates and come out to support the players. Jai Jagannath!”

OCA secretary Sanjay Behera also welcomed the association of the former Indian cricketers, saying, “It is an honour to have two of the finest Indian cricketers, Suresh Raina and Debashish Mohanty, on board as the brand ambassadors of the Odisha T20 League – CM Trophy. Their association will add immense value to the tournament and inspire the young cricketers of Odisha to dream bigger and showcase their talent on this platform.”

Melbourne, Dec 26 (IANS) Veteran left-handed opener Usman Khawaja hits his first fifty of the ongoing series while Marnus Labuschagne remained unbeaten on 44 as Australia reached 176/2 in 53 overs at tea on day one of the fourth Test against India at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Thursday.

It was a session where India bowled much better, as seen from them giving away only 26 runs in the first 13 overs. Their only success came when Khawaja was dismissed for 57 by Jasprit Bumrah, making it the fifth time the pacer dismissed the batter in this series.

But Labuschagne continued to be in his old self, and with Steve Smith giving him company at 10 not out, Australia will be expected to garner more runs against the old ball. The post-lunch session began with both Labuschagne and Khawaja being circumspect, as the first four overs were all maidens.

Khawaja broke the shackles with a fierce pull off Akash Deep going for four. Just as it was the case in Brisbane, Akash troubled both Australian batters, and beat them consistently, but didn’t get any wickets. It meant Khawaja, despite being scratchy, continued to be solid by driving Akash past mid-on, before getting a thick outside edge off him to complete his fifty.

With a leg slip kept in place, Labuschagne had to encounter some tight bowling from Siraj, who was angling the deliveries towards his body and even hit him on the crotch multiple times, though he got two boundaries.

India had something to smile when Bumrah’s innocuous short ball led to Khawaja toe-ending the pull straight to mid-wicket, as the batter fell for 57 off 121 balls. Labuschagne and Smith took a four each off Jadeja and Washington Sundar to end a session where only 64 runs came for Australia.

Women’s World Cup: Indian team undergoes intense fielding session ahead of clash against England

Indore, Oct 16 (IANS) The Indian women’s cricket team ramped up its preparations for the crucial 2025 Women’s ODI World Cup clash against England, set to happen on Sunday, with a high-intensity fielding session at the Holkar Stadium.

With back-to-back defeats to South Africa and reigning champions Australia in Visakhapatnam, the Harmanpreet Kaur-led squad focused on tightening their fielding ahead of the high-stakes encounter in Indore, where they look to bounce back in winning ways.

“The objective of today’s fielding session was to get used to the conditions first and fielding under pressure. We have covered four areas in this – high catching, ground fielding, direct hits and fielding under pressure,” said fielding coach Munish Bali in a video posted on the BCCI social media accounts on Thursday.

There was also an interesting fielding drill kept for the players, which Bali explained was a part of getting the execution right under immense pressure. “If it is a direct hit, you will get two points. If it goes inside the net, you will get three points. So, total 20 points you have to score.”

“But, where is the pressure in this? If you have scored 18 points, but if you made a mistake on the 19th point, you will go back to zero. The amount of pressure we put here in our sessions will automatically reflect during matches.”

“So, exactly when we are doing small drills, we are giving them targets, like in direct hits, if you hit this ball, you will get four points. If you miss a catch, it will be minus three. So, we are trying to create that atmosphere where we can put pressure on them and that is helping us a lot,” he elaborated.

As of now, hosts’ India occupies the fourth spot in the points table with four points, while Nat Sciver-Brunt led England comfortably sits on top of the tally with seven points. India need to win their remaining league games against England, New Zealand and Bangladesh to keep themselves in race for entering the semi-finals.

Pranavi finishes modest 50th as Nuria wins her fifth LET title

Houston, Sep 8 (IANS) Pranavi Urs went 2-over par on the third and final day of the 2025 Aramco Houston Championship and finished a modest Tied-50th in the event.

Pranavi, a multiple winner on her home tour, the Women’s Pro Golf Tour, is returning from an injury and shot rounds of 72-69-74 for an up-and-down week.

The other two Indians in the field, Avani Prashanth and Tvesa Malik missed the cut.

Pranavi had just one birdie on the final day and three bogeys on the second, fourth and the 13th.

Spain’s Nuria Iturrioz fired a final round of 68 (-4) to secure her fifth Ladies European Tour (LET) title. She won by two strokes.

The Spanish star began the day in second place just one shot behind compatriot Carlota Ciganda at Golfcrest Country Club. Three birdies in her final five holes saw Iturrioz surge ahead of Ciganda and England’s Charley Hull to secure her first victory since 2023.

Iturrioz had caddie David Floyd on the bag and thanked him after the victory for the hard work he’s put in to helping her out on the golf course.

England’s Hull (67) and Spain’s Ciganda (71) ended the week in a tie for second place on 11-under-par in Houston.

Iturrioz made her first birdie of the day on the third and added another on the fifth before dropping a shot on the sixth after going into the water.

The 29-year-old made a birdie on 11, but made a bogey on 13; however, she found her momentum to finish in style with birdies on 14, 15 and 17 to win with a score of 13-under-par.

Singapore’s Shannon Tan finished in solo fourth place on 10-under-par after a final round of 64 (-8), which included an eagle, eight birdies and two bogeys.

A trio of Frenchwoman were in a share of fifth place with Celine Boutier, Perrine Delacour, and Nastasia Nadaud all on nine-under-par.

In the LET Order of Merit, England’s Rhodes still leads and has 1,960.49 points to her name, as Singapore’s Tan jumped up to second place. With her victory, Spain’s Iturrioz climbed from 28th place to 13th and now has a total of 1,018.07 points.
