Bhopal, Nov 4 (IANS) The Congress on Wednesday announced a new state executive committee of its Seva Dal in Madhya Pradesh and appointed 18 district chief organisers as part of efforts to strengthen the party organisation at the grassroots level.
The announcement was made by All India Congress Seva Dal president B.V. Srinivas in consultation with AICC secretary and Madhya Pradesh in-charge Pratap Narayan Mishra and state Seva Dal president Avneesh Bhargava, according to a statement issued by the Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee’s media department.
Bhargava said dedicated and committed workers had been given priority in the formation of the new state executive committee, according to a statement from the Madhya Pradesh media department.
He said district chief organisers who had performed well were promoted and accommodated in the state executive committee.
Expressing confidence in the new team, Bhargava said the appointments would strengthen the Seva Dal organisation in the state and provide fresh energy to its upcoming organisational activities and campaigns.
The organisational reshuffle comes at a time when the Congress is facing questions over coordination and discipline within its Madhya Pradesh unit, following disciplinary action against 60 Youth Congress office-bearers for missing a major Opposition rally in Delhi.
On November 3, the Madhya Pradesh Youth Congress suspended 60 office-bearers, including nine district presidents, five vice-presidents, 14 general secretaries and 32 secretaries, for remaining absent from the November 1 ‘Vote Chori’ rally at Ramlila Maidan in New Delhi.
The action was taken on the directions of the Indian Youth Congress national leadership, which termed their absence from the rally a serious instance of organisational indiscipline.
The suspensions were ordered with immediate effect until further directions. The rally was organised by the Congress-led INDIA bloc to protest against alleged irregularities in electoral rolls and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise.
The Congress suspended 60 Youth Congress functionaries in Madhya Pradesh, calling the action part of a wider disciplinary action by the youth wing across several states.
According to reports, 215 office-bearers from different state units were suspended for missing the Delhi rally.
