Delhi court convicts Bangladeshi national for illegal stay, orders his deportation

New Delhi, July 19 (IANS) A Delhi court has convicted an illegal Bangladeshi national for unlawfully residing in India after fraudulently obtaining Indian identity documents and directed his deportation to Bangladesh, police said on Sunday.

The accused, identified as Sabu alias Shabu Sardar, was convicted in connection with FIR No. 160/2025 registered under Section 318(A) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 14(A) of the Foreigners Act at Paharganj Police Station.

According to police, the judgment was delivered on Saturday by the Link Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC), Central District, Tis Hazari Courts, which convicted the accused and directed the authorities to initiate his deportation to Bangladesh.

Officials said the case came to light after the Special Staff of the Central District developed specific intelligence regarding Bangladeshi nationals allegedly residing illegally in Delhi after assuming false Indian identities.

Acting on the inputs, police apprehended the accused from the Paharganj area. “Investigation established that the accused had illegally entered India and fraudulently obtained an Indian Passport, Aadhaar Card, PAN Card, bank account and other identity documents by concealing his true identity and nationality,” police said.

During the investigation, police collected documentary, digital and technical evidence, including passport and immigration records, forged identity documents and other corroborative material, which established the accused’s true identity and illegal stay in the country.

“The investigation also exposed the modus operandi adopted by the accused to secure genuine Indian identity documents on the basis of false credentials,” police added.

According to the police, the evidence gathered during the investigation was so strong that the accused did not contest the prosecution’s case. Instead, he voluntarily pleaded guilty before the court after realising that the evidence against him was overwhelming.

Accepting the plea, the court convicted the accused and sentenced him to imprisonment for the period already undergone. It also directed the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) to lodge the convict in a detention centre and complete the necessary formalities for his deportation to Bangladesh.

Police said the conviction was secured following a meticulous investigation backed by technical surveillance and documentary evidence, culminating in successful prosecution and deportation proceedings against the illegal foreign national in accordance with the law.
