Fake IGI Airport employee arrested for duping woman of Rs 3.03 Lakh in online job fraud

New Delhi, Aug 8 (IANS) In a significant breakthrough against cyber-enabled job frauds, the Cyber Police Station of North-East District has arrested a man who impersonated as an employee of Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport, Delhi, and cheated a woman of Rs 303,120 on the false promise of securing a cabin crew job for her son.

The action was taken following a complaint lodged by Somvati, a resident of Shiv Vihar, Delhi. Based on her complaint, E-FIR No. 00061/2025 dated December 3, 2025, was registered at the Cyber Police Station, North-East District under Sections 318(4), 319, and 340 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

According to the complaint, the woman came into contact with an unknown person through Facebook in July 2024. The accused introduced himself as an employee posted at IGI Airport and assured her that he could secure a Cabin Crew position for her 20-year-old son.

To gain her confidence, the accused demanded money under various pretexts, including security deposits, documentation charges, and recruitment formalities. Trusting his assurances, the complainant transferred a total of Rs 3,03,120 through 16 UPI and PhonePe transactions between September 17, 2024, and December 26, 2024.

However, after receiving the money, the accused neither arranged the promised job nor returned the amount. Instead, he blocked the complainant on Facebook, stopped responding to her phone calls, and became untraceable.

The investigation involved detailed technical analysis, digital surveillance, and financial transaction tracking.

Acting on the directions of senior officers, a dedicated team comprising Head Constable Nitin Kumar, Head Constable Ankit Tomar, and Constable Saurabh, under the supervision of Inspector Rahul Kumar, SHO of Cyber Police Station, North-East District, conducted sustained efforts to identify and trace the suspect.

Based on technical evidence and extensive field verification, the accused was traced and apprehended on August 6, 2026, from Madhu Vihar, Delhi. At the time of his arrest, he was working as a security guard at a Blinkit store.

During interrogation, the accused allegedly confessed that he deliberately posed as an IGI Airport employee to gain the trust of job seekers on Facebook. He targeted victims by promising airport jobs and collected money in the name of recruitment procedures, documentation charges, and security deposits.

Police said that after receiving the payments, he blocked victims on social media, deleted Facebook chats, destroyed the SIM card used in the crime, and spent the cheated money on personal expenses and repayment of debts in an effort to avoid detection.

The arrested accused has been identified as Rajeev Kumar (32), son of Hariram, a resident of Gali No. 2, Pulia Talab, Mandawali, Delhi. Police records indicate that he has no previous criminal involvement.

During the investigation, police recovered one mobile phone used in the commission of the offence, along with bank-related documents linked to the fraudulent transactions.

Further investigation into the case is underway.

INS Mumbai to participate in multinational exercise La Perouse

New Delhi, Jan 18 (IANS) To enhance cooperation in the field of maritime surveillance, the indigenously built guided missile destroyer INS Mumbai is participating in the fourth edition of the multinational exercise La Perouse, the Defence Ministry said on Saturday.

This edition of the exercise will witness the participation of personnel/surface and sub-surface assets from various maritime partners including the Royal Australian Navy, French Navy, Royal Navy, the United States Navy, Indonesian Navy, Royal Malaysian Navy, Republic of Singapore Navy and Royal Canadian Navy, said a statement.

The Ministry said the exercise aims to develop common Maritime Situational Awareness by enhancing the cooperation in the field of maritime surveillance, maritime interdiction operations and air operations along with the conduct of progressive training and information sharing.

The exercise provides an opportunity for like-minded navies to develop closer links in planning, coordination and information sharing for enhanced tactical interoperability.

Advanced multi-domain exercises, including surface warfare, anti-air warfare, air defence, cross-deck landings and tactical manoeuvres, as also the constabulary missions such as VBSS (Visit, Board, Search and Seizure) operations, are part of the event.

The naval exercise, being held in the straits between the Indian Ocean and the Pacific Ocean: Malacca, Sunda and Lombok, began on January 16 and will conclude on January 24.

Indian Navy’s participation in the exercise showcases the high level of synergy, coordination and interoperability between the like-minded navies and their commitment to a rules-based international order in the maritime domain.

This visit is in consonance with India’s vision of Security and Growth for All in the Region (SAGAR) to enhance maritime cooperation and collaboration for a safer and secure Indo-Pacific Region.

Last month, Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS) Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi went to Indonesia on an official visit from December 15 to 18 to consolidate bilateral defence relations.

The visit underscored the strong maritime relations between the two countries conforming to the shared vision of India-Indonesia Maritime Cooperation in the Indo-Pacific.

During the visit, the CNS engaged in bilateral discussions with top-level Indonesian Government and defence officials.

The visit was part of ongoing efforts to further consolidate bilateral defence relations between India and Indonesia, in line with the deepening Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, with a focus on enhancing Naval Cooperation.

Kerala: CPI-M to expel party leaders who drink in public, CPI says they can have privately

Thiruvananthapuram, March 3 (IANS) The two Communist parties in Kerala, the largest party — the CPI-M and CPI — the second biggest ally in the ruling Pinarayi Vijayan-led Left government, have their own set of rules for tipplers.

On Monday, M. V. Govindan, the State CPI-M Secretary, a senior legislator and also a former Excise Minister, made no bones of the party’s stand towards tipplers.

“We are a party which has an ideology which is very clear that our comrades should not smoke or drink. If you (media) shows one comrade of ours who drinks, he will be thrown out of the party,” said Govindan.

He was interacting with the reporters ahead of the upcoming state party conference beginning later this week and he is all set to get another term.

However, the State CPI Secretary Binoy Viswam early this year created a stir when he said his party’s stand for their comrades is they can drink but at no cost they should drink in public.

He said that none of their party members should be in an inebriated state in public, while they can drink at their homes and remain indoors.

Incidentally, it was in 1964 that the CPI split and the CPI-M was formed and following that it was the latter which ruled the roost among the Communists after they reigned supreme in West Bengal for more than three decades and a near similar performance was witnessed in Tripura but things went haywire in both these states and their only bastion presently is in Kerala, where Pinarayi Vijayan created history by retaining power in the 2021 Assembly polls.

In the past nine years there have been minor brushes between the CPI-M and CPI and in the first Vijayan government, the CPI created a jolt when all four of its Ministers boycotted a weekly Cabinet meeting after differences of opinion cropped up with Vijayan, but the issue was soon resolved.

However, in Kerala the CPI, even though at present is with the Left, in the past they had joined the alliance with the Congress and it saw its legendary leaders C. Achutha Menon and P.K. Vasudevan Nair going on to become Chief Ministers, with the support of the Congress.

‘If it is ours, we cannot stay silent’: Dr Farooq Abdullah asks Centre to raise voice on PoK

Srinagar, July 29 (IANS) National Conference President and former J&K Chief Minister, Dr Farooq Abdullah, on Wednesday asked the central government to raise its voice on the recent developments in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), asserting that “if it is ours, we cannot stay silent”.

Addressing reporters here, Dr Abdullah said if the Indian government considers Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) an integral part of the country, it must raise its voice over the reported killings and hardships faced by people there.

He also expressed concern over student protests, unemployment, drug abuse and the recent security crackdown in Jammu and Kashmir.

Dr Abdullah said he had repeatedly appealed to the United Nations Human Rights mechanisms as well as the Prime Minister and the External Affairs Minister to intervene and take note of the reported situation in PoK.

“I have requested the United Nations Human Rights Commission to go there, assess the situation and try to resolve the problems. I have also appealed to the Prime Minister and the Foreign Minister,” he said.

Questioning the Centre’s position on PoK, he said the government frequently describes the region as an integral part of India, but remains silent over reports of killings and alleged human rights violations.

“They keep saying PoK is our part. If it is your part, then why don’t you speak about what is happening there? Why don’t you say the killings should stop? I have not heard any statement from them,” he said.

On the ongoing student-led protests, the NC President said the agitation would continue if the authorities failed to address the students’ demands.

“If the promises made to them are not fulfilled and instead they are met with FIRs, arrests and harassment, this movement will continue. The students have risen and, God willing, they will carry it forward,” he said.

Dr Abdullah also expressed concern over the growing drug menace among youth in Jammu and Kashmir, stating that unemployment remains one of the biggest challenges confronting the region.

The NC legislators had planned a protest at the Jantar Mantar on July 20 to press for restoration of statehood to J&K. When Jantar Mantar was occupied by the student activities of Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) on July 20, the NC had to shift the venue of its protest to Prithviraj Road in New Delhi.
