New Delhi, July 4 (IANS) Police have registered an FIR against a BJP leader and another accused in connection with the alleged molestation and criminal intimidation of a woman doctor at Bundelkhand Medical College (BMC) in Madhya Pradesh’s Sagar district. Police said efforts are underway to arrest the accused, while the incident has triggered protests by doctors and severely disrupted healthcare services at the government medical college.
According to Additional Superintendent of Police Narendra Solanki, an FIR has been registered against BJP Yuva Morcha state working committee member Anil Shrivastava and another accused on the basis of the woman doctor’s complaint.
The case has been registered under various provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and police teams are conducting raids to apprehend the accused.
The alleged incident took place at around 1 a.m. on Friday inside the premises of Bundelkhand Medical College. According to the complaint, Shrivastava allegedly behaved inappropriately with the woman doctor and attempted to touch her inappropriately. When she resisted his alleged advances, he reportedly threatened to shoot her, police said.
Taking note of the seriousness of the allegations, police have intensified efforts to trace and arrest the accused. Officials said further investigation is underway.
The incident sparked widespread outrage among doctors and healthcare workers at the medical college. In protest against the alleged assault and demanding immediate action, doctors began a strike on Friday morning, resulting in a major disruption of medical services at Bundelkhand Medical College.
The strike has affected routine healthcare operations, leaving patients and their attendants facing considerable inconvenience. Hospital services remained impacted as doctors insisted that work would resume only after the accused are arrested and strict legal action is initiated.
Doctors have demanded the immediate arrest of both accused and called for stringent action to ensure the safety and security of healthcare professionals at the institution.
Meanwhile, security has been tightened in and around the medical college campus and the hospital premises to maintain law and order and prevent any untoward incidents. Police said they are continuing the investigation and are making sustained efforts to arrest the accused at the earliest.
