GST collections clock nearly Rs 2 lakh crore in May after robust April

Patna, Aug 26 (IANS) Patna SSP Kartikeya Sharma said on Tuesday that the violent ruckus which broke out on Atal Path in Indrapuri was a well-planned conspiracy.

SSP Sharma said that the investigation revealed that the incident, involving arson and stone-pelting, was deliberately orchestrated for political and financial gain.

He said the mastermind of the incident was identified as local ward councillor Tutu and lawyer Shwet Ranjan.

“They hatched the conspiracy of arson. They both have been arrested. The entire conspiracy was hatched in the Harihar Chamber, Patna. People were brought from outside, including women, to stage the violence. After the death of two children, Shwet Ranjan met the ward councillor and plotted the ruckus to extract a share in compensation,” he said.

SSP Sharma said that ward councillor Tutu allegedly paid Rs 2 lakh to organise the chaos, distributing money among eight individuals who were directed to pelt stones and set vehicles on fire.

“The victim’s family had no role in the incident and was instead used as a front to legitimise the protest. Lawyer Shwet Ranjan is accused of being a habitual instigator, having staged similar disturbances earlier. We have briefed the victims’ families about the findings so far,” Sharma said.

On Monday, violence erupted in Patna’s Atal Path (Indrapuri area), where police vehicles and common citizens’ bikes were torched, and several acts of vandalism were reported.

Besides Tutu and Shwet Ranjan, Patna police detained more than 60 individuals for creating a disturbance on the Atal Path on Monday.

On August 15, two children – a girl and a boy – were found dead in mysterious circumstances inside a parked car in Patna.

The incident occurred at upscale Gokul Path in the Patel Nagar locality under the Patliputra police station limits in the city.

The deceased have been identified as Laxmi Kumari (7) and Dipak Kumar (5), both siblings.

Patna police rescued their lifeless bodies from inside the car. The car was parked inside the premises of a house in a densely populated locality.

Police investigation revealed that the deceased was wearing a school uniform and returned from tuition. Their tuition teacher is one of the suspects in this case.

Anand, Dec 12 (IANS) One of the biggest challenges faced by medical professionals is ensuring that patients feel satisfied with their treatment and confident that their care is proceeding correctly.

It is often observed that doctors do not always adopt a sensitive approach towards patients and fail to gain their trust.

To train doctors and other healthcare professionals in these aspects, India’s first Bioethics Centre has been established in Gujarat’s Anand district.

This Bioethics Centre has been launched at Pramukhswami Medical College under Bhaikaka University, located in Karamsad, the hometown of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.

Dr Dinesh Kumar, Additional Dean of Pramukhswami Medical College, says, “We study the principles of medical ethics, and we provide that education to students and other doctors.”

Established under the auspices of the International Chair in Bioethics, University of Porto, Portugal, the Centre is providing training in bioethics to doctors, medical students, and nursing staff. Dr Barna Ganguly, Head of the Bioethics Centre, explains, “This ‘Centre of Bioethics’ is a new concept. It is also involved in areas like medical education and research within the health sector.”

According to medical students, bioethics plays a crucial role in the life of a health professional, and this training will help them become more sensitive doctors in the future. Medical student Janhvi Topiwala says, “We have been taught about bioethics from the first year. We are told what bioethics is and how we can incorporate it into our daily lives.”

A proper balance between ethics and professionalism is essential in the life of a healthcare provider. Although awareness about bioethics has grown in India in recent years, training opportunities remain limited.

In such a scenario, the launch of this Bioethics Centre at Pramukhswami Medical College will surely help guide the study and practice of this important discipline in the medical field.

New Delhi, Jan 16 (IANS) Delhi Labour Minister Kapil Mishra on Friday ordered early action to bring unorganised sector workers, gig and platform workers, and construction workers under the ambit of social security, in line with the Central Government rules.

On Friday, the Labour Minister chaired a high-level review meeting to assess preparedness related to the publication and notification of rules framed under the Code on Social Security, 2020, aimed at extending various welfare benefits to these workers, said an official statement.

The Code on Social Security provides for the constitution of Welfare Boards for unorganised and construction workers and for the formulation of welfare schemes for them.

During the meeting, the Cabinet Minister was briefed on the preparedness related to the publication and notification of rules framed under all four Labour Codes, including the Code on Social Security, 2020. The meeting was attended by the Labour Commissioner and other senior officers of the department.

The Labour Minister directed that it be ensured that the benefits of schemes reach unorganised workers, gig and platform workers, and construction workers swiftly and transparently.

Mishra stated that the Ministry of Labour and Employment, Government of India, has consolidated 29 existing labour laws into four Labour Codes — the Code on Wages, the Code on Industrial Relations, the Code on Social Security, and the Code on Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions, the statement said.

The objective of these Labour Codes is to protect workers’ rights, promote Ease of Doing Business, and expand social security coverage.

Under the Code on Social Security, 2020, unorganised workers and gig/platform workers have been included to extend various social security benefits to them.

Similarly, construction workers who were earlier covered under the Building and Other Construction Workers (BOCW) Act, 1996, have now been brought under the ambit of the Code on Social Security, 2020.

Mishra directed that the rules pre-published by the Central Government be studied in detail and, wherever necessary, Delhi’s rules be aligned with the Central rules to maintain uniformity across the country and to avoid any inconvenience to workers.

The Labour Minister instructed officials to finalise all rules at the earliest so that maximum benefits under all four Labour Codes can be made available to workers in Delhi in a timely manner.

He emphasised that the welfare and interests of workers are the highest priority of the Delhi Government and that no delay in this regard will be tolerated.
