HM Shah speaks to Gujarat CM, Dy CM after slab collapse; all injured workers safe

Gandhinagar, Sep 10 (IANS) Union Home Minister and Gandhinagar MP Amit Shah on Thursday said all workers injured in the collapse of a slab at an under-construction building in the Kudasan area were safe and receiving medical treatment.

HM Shah said he spoke to Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi after the incident and was briefed about the rescue and relief operations launched by the local administration.

In a post on social media platform X, HM Shah said: “In connection with the incident of a slab collapsing at a construction site in Kudasan, Gandhinagar, I spoke with the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister. The local administration immediately undertook relief and rescue operations. All the injured workers are safe and are being provided with all possible medical treatment. I pray for the speedy recovery of all the injured.”

The incident took place at around 9:15 p.m. on Wednesday at the under-construction ‘Bosky The Empire’ commercial building in Kudasan, where a portion of the slab reportedly collapsed while construction work was underway.

Following the collapse, local police, fire brigade and disaster management teams rushed to the site and launched a rescue operation.

Cranes and other equipment were used to clear the debris and evacuate workers who were feared trapped underneath the collapsed structure.

Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi visited the accident site as well as Gandhinagar Civil Hospital and reviewed the rescue and medical arrangements.

He later said that around 15 workers had been injured, with two discharged after being found safe and the remaining workers undergoing treatment.

Health Minister Praful Pansheriya also reached the Civil Hospital and reviewed the treatment of the injured.

Specialist doctors, including those from orthopaedics, spine care and surgery, were deployed to provide medical assistance.

BJP MLA Rita Patel said local residents had informed her that around 20 to 22 workers generally worked at the site each day. “Around 13 workers had been rescued and shifted to the Civil Hospital, and that none was in critical condition,” she said.

Authorities have ordered a detailed investigation into the collapse.

The probe will examine whether safety regulations were followed at the construction site and whether any quality-related issue or other deficiency in the centring or slab work contributed to the accident.

Officials said further legal action would be taken in accordance with the findings of the investigation.

The district administration, municipal authorities and senior police officials are continuing to monitor the situation.

HM Shah directs Bengal BJP to focus on 28 Assembly segments in and around Kolkata

Kolkata, Dec 31 (IANS) Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday directed leaders of the West Bengal unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to place special emphasis on 28 Assembly constituencies under four organisational districts in and around the state capital Kolkata for the crucial Assembly elections scheduled next year.

HM Shah issued the direction at a meeting with party leaders on Wednesday, the last day of his three-day visit to West Bengal. Besides core leaders of the BJP’s state unit, grassroots-level organisational leaders from the four districts were also asked to attend the meeting.

The four organisational districts are Kolkata (Dakshin) and Kolkata (Uttar) within the city, Jadavpur in South 24 Parganas, and Dum Dum in North 24 Parganas. Incidentally, these four organisational districts also correspond to four Lok Sabha constituencies.

“The Union Home Minister reminded us that BJP candidates trailed in 26 of the 28 Assembly constituencies under these four organisational districts in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Despite that, he has set a target of winning a majority of these 28 Assembly seats in 2026, with special emphasis on constituencies where the party’s defeat margins were thin in 2024,” said a BJP state committee member.

After attending the organisational meeting at the Science City Auditorium in the eastern outskirts of Kolkata, HM Shah visited the Thanthania Goddess Kali temple in north Kolkata and offered prayers.

State Congress leaders and workers, led by state Congress president Suvankar Sarkar, staged protest demonstrations along HM Shah’s route to the temple. However, a large police contingent erected barricades and ensured a reasonable distance between HM Shah’s convoy and the protesters.

After offering prayers, HM Shah’s convoy proceeded to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport. He is scheduled to return to New Delhi later in the night.

MP govt reshuffles 30 IPS and 14 IAS officers

Bhopal, Sep 9 (IANS) In a major administrative reshuffle, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav-led Madhya Pradesh government transferred 30 Indian Police Service (IPS) and 15 Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers.

The General Administration Department (GAD) issued notifications one after another late Monday night, leading to the reshuffling of five collectors in the districts of Indore, Jabalpur, Katni, Barwani and Agar-Malwa.

Importantly, Public Relations Officer (PRO) in the Madhya Pradesh government, Sudam Khade, has been transferred and appointed as Commissioner of the Jabalpur division.

Jabalpur District Collector Deepka Sexena has been appointed as the new Public Relations Officer at the Directorate of Public Relations (DPR) of Madhya Pradesh.

Indore District Collector Ashish Singh has been appointed as Commissioner of the Ujjain division, while Indore Municipal Commissioner Shivam Verma will be the new Collector of Indore district.

Commissioner of Indore division, Deepak Singh, has been appointed as Secretary at Madhya Pradesh State Election Commission. He will replace Abhishek Singh, who has been shifted to the Home Department as Secretary. The transfer list of 30 IPS officers includes DIG and SP ranks.

Superintendent of Police (SPs) of Ashoknagar and Dhar districts have been replaced.

Rajeev Mishra will be the new SP of Ashoknagar, while Mayank Awasthi will be Dhar SP, according to the notification of the state government.

Similarly, new DIGs have been posted in Indore Rural, Chhatarpur, Balaghat, Bhopal Rural, Ratlam and Sagar ranges.

Additional CP (HQ and Crime) in Indore and Bhopal have been reshuffled.

Chhatarpur DIG Lalit Shakyawar and Sagar DIG Sunil Kumar Pandey have been shifted to Police Headquarters, Bhopal.

Balaghat DIG Mukesh Kumar Srivastava had been sent to the State Human Rights Commission.

Similarly, Bhopal Rural DIG Omprakash Tripathi has been appointed as DIG Special Armed Force of Central Zone. Ratlam DIG Manoj Kumar Singh has been shifted to the Lokayukta Department of the MP Police.

1008 camps to be held in Delhi from April 30 to May 3 to promote Sanskrit

New Delhi, April 16 (IANS) In a landmark initiative aimed at reviving and popularising one of the world’s most ancient languages, Sanskrit Bharati Delhi is set to launch the ‘1008 Sanskrit Sambhashana Shivir’ campaign from April 30 to May 3.

This campaign will provide people from all walks of life with an opportunity to learn spoken Sanskrit in a simple, accessible, and free format.

The campaign will culminate with a grand event on May 3, where Union Home Minister Amit Shah is expected to attend the concluding ceremony at the Delhi University campus, which is likely to draw a crowd of over 30,000 participants.

BJP MP Manoj Tiwari, speaking at a pre-launch event, expressed his deep emotional connection with the Sanskrit language.

“In Delhi, I’ve often seen hoardings that say ‘Learn English’. But for the first time, we’re seeing ‘Learn Sanskrit’ — and that is truly historic,” Tiwari said while addressing a press conference.

“Sanskrit has had a profound impact on my life. It saddens me that some people tried to politicise or sideline such a beautiful language. I travelled more than six hours to attend this event because I believe Sanskrit isn’t just a language — it’s the foundation of our culture. It’s easy to learn and deeply enriching.”

Kapil Mishra, another BJP leader, praised Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta for supporting the initiative.

“This campaign is a matter of pride for Delhi. Camps will be held at 1,008 different locations across the city in just 10 days. The presence of Amit Shah on the final day is a testament to how significant this event is. History is being made,” he said.

“Sanskrit is on the path to reclaim its rightful place in society.”

Sanskrit, often referred to as the mother of many modern Indian languages, is a classical tongue in which the Rigveda, the world’s oldest known text, was composed. Scholars date the Vedas between 6500 B.C. and 1500 B.C., indicating the deep historical roots of the language.

Linguist William Jones, who was well-versed in Latin and Greek, once described Sanskrit as “more perfect than Greek, more copious than Latin, and more refined than either.”

Despite its ancient origins, Sanskrit continues to be used by scholars in India and even in countries like the United States and Germany. It is recognised as one of the 22 scheduled languages under the Eighth Schedule of the Indian Constitution.
