Agartala, July 31 (IANS) Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Friday asserted that the state’s development would be meaningful only when the benefits of government welfare and infrastructure projects reach the last person in society, while inaugurating and laying the foundation stone for development works worth nearly Rs 179 crore in South Tripura district.
Addressing a public function at PM Shri Taikarma Class XII School ground in Shantirbazar subdivision, the Chief Minister said the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)‑led government has been implementing a series of development initiatives with a focus on improving the quality of life of people across the state.
“The present government is committed to solving people’s problems and ensuring inclusive development. We are working in every sector, including education, healthcare, power, drinking water and communication infrastructure. Real development can be achieved only when its benefits reach the last person in society,” he said.
The Chief Minister virtually inaugurated 23 development projects and laid the foundation stone for 12 more, involving a total investment of about Rs 179.08 crore. Of the total, the 23 inaugurated projects have been completed for Rs 36.45 crore, while the 12 projects for which foundation stones were laid will be executed at an estimated cost of Rs 142.64 crore.
The projects include 14 health infrastructure schemes, 11 education‑related infrastructure projects, four Public Works Department projects and six initiatives aimed at the welfare of tribal communities. Saha said the projects would particularly benefit residents of the Shantirbazar, Sabroom and Belonia subdivisions of South Tripura district.
Highlighting the government’s focus on healthcare, the Chief Minister said a Critical Care Unit and a trauma centre have already been established at Shantirbazar District Hospital, while the number of beds in the hospital would also be increased to strengthen medical services.
He also announced that large‑scale solar power panels would be installed at Ladhua Tea Garden and that a flood‑control dam would be constructed on the Muhuri River in Belonia to mitigate recurring flood problems.
Stating that the government is spending around Rs 406 crore on the development of South Tripura district, Saha said the state has created a favourable environment for industrial investment. Referring to the recently held Tripura Business Conclave, he said around 1,200 industrialists participated in the event and expressed interest in investing across various sectors in the state.
“In the past one year, development projects worth nearly Rs 1,500 crore have been inaugurated across Tripura. New school buildings and hostels are being constructed, while smart classrooms have been introduced in several schools to strengthen the education sector,” he said.
The Chief Minister also highlighted various welfare measures for girl students, including the distribution of bicycles, scooties and mobile phones, along with free education facilities. He added that MBBS seats in the state’s medical colleges have also been increased.
Saha said the government is giving priority to the educational, healthcare, social and economic development of tribal communities and urged people to actively participate in the state’s development journey in line with the vision of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas”.
The programme was attended by Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma, Cooperation Minister Shuklacharan Noatia, South Tripura Zilla Parishad Sabhadhipati Dipak Dutta, legislators Pramod Reang, Swapna Majumdar and Mailafru Mog, senior government officials and other dignitaries.
