Indigo flight comes into contact with VDGS pole while parking at Srinagar airport

Srinagar, Sep 4 (IANS) An IndiGo aircraft came into contact with a pole that holds the Visual Docking Guidance System (VDGS) display unit and its associated laser or camera sensors, during the parking process at the Srinagar airport on Friday morning, officials said.

At around 9:02 a.m, an Indigo flight 6E 225 (VT-NOG) operating from Navi Mumbai to Srinagar came into contact with the VDGS pole while being positioned at Bay No. 06 at Srinagar Airport, a statement said.

According to Srinagar Airport Authorities, all passengers and crew members are safe, and no injuries have been reported. Passengers and crew were safely deboarded using manual aircraft stairs.

Officials said that the details and circumstances leading to the incident will be examined by the appropriate authorities as per the prescribed procedures. The exact cause will be ascertained following the completion of the enquiry, and no conclusion regarding the cause is being drawn at this stage.

Meanwhile, airport operations remain normal, with flight arrivals and departures continuing as per schedule.

This comes a day after an IndiGo flight from Doha to Bengaluru was safely diverted to Muscat after the pilot-in-command reported feeling unwell and required immediate medical attention.

The pilot of Flight 6E 1302 was attended to by a medical team after landing in Muscat, later taken to a hospital and is currently found to be in good health.

IndiGo arranged an alternate aircraft from Bengaluru to Muscat and a fresh set of crew members for passengers to continue onwards to their destination.

IndiGo flight 6E 1302 was diverted “due to an urgent requirement of medical attention for one of the operating crew members,” the statement said.

“The said crew member was attended to by the medical team upon landing and is feeling better now. An alternate aircraft along with a new set of crew has been arranged to continue the journey to Bengaluru,” it added.

The airline further said it was providing refreshments and regular updates to passengers waiting in Muscat.

Bengal CM’s message on zero-tolerance for corruption; cites suspension of two officials

Kolkata, July 24 (IANS) West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Friday gave a message of a ‘zero-tolerance approach against corruption’ by suspending two motor-vehicle inspectors (MVIs) accused of taking bribes from a truck driver.

The Chief Minister himself issued a social media statement announcing the suspension of the two MVIs posted at Rampur check post in West Burdwan district, who were accused of allegedly demanding a bribe from a truck driver despite having valid documents and harassing him by stopping his vehicle.

The state’s Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) had also started an investigation against them.

“No One is Above the Law The Government of West Bengal maintains an absolute “Zero Tolerance Policy” against corruption at any level of Administration, Department or Government. Extortion and Corruption will never be tolerated under any circumstances and we are firmly committed to weeding out corrupt elements to completely cleanse our Administrative system,” CM Adhikari stated in his social media statement.

While sharing the details of the incident on his X handle, the CM wrote, … “Incident & Complaint Details: Goods Carrier Truck No. JH09BA3535 (Owner: Dipak Singh, Driver: Shiva Yadav), while returning to the garage after servicing, the truck was wrongfully intercepted by Officials at the Rampur Checkpost in Paschim Bardhaman. The driver was illegally harassed and pressured for bribes and upon refusal, the vehicle was seized and an unlawful demand of ₹22,000 was raised towards a tax already abolished by the State Government.”

The two MVIs who have been suspended and against whom the ACB had initiated a probe have been identified as Nazimul Haque and Anupam Banerjee.

“The complaints have been formally referred to the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) for a thorough criminal inquiry and necessary legal action. Directives are being implemented to ensure that wrongfully detained vehicles are released and that harassment of Transporters is dealt with an iron fist,” the Chief Minister added.

In his social media statement, the Chief Minister has issued a strong note of caution that similar instances of proven involvement in corruption will be dealt with equal severity.

“A Stern Warning: Let this serve as a clear message to all corners of the Administration. Any Official found indulging in corruption, harassment or illegal gratification will face the strictest possible disciplinary and legal consequences. We are dedicated to ensuring a transparent, fair and corruption-free Administration,” his social media statement read.

Big fan: Man from Hajipur gets Chirag Paswan’s tattoo on his chest

Sitamarhi, Nov 8 (IANS) A big fan of Union Minister Chirag Paswan was seen in Sitamarhi on Saturday. Shubhash Paswan, a resident of Hajipur who came to attend Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s rally in Sitamarhi, had a tattoo of Chirag Paswan inked on his chest.

Speaking to IANS, he said, “Chirag Paswan is carrying forward the vision of ‘Bihari First.’ His father had devoted his life to serving the people of Bihar.”

“That’s why I wanted to show that Chirag Paswan continues to receive immense love from the people,” he added.

IANS also spoke to some attendees who were present at the rally.

One of them said, “You can see the record number of people who have come here to attend PM Modi’s rally. PM Modi has always cared for the people of Bihar. The NDA will win with a huge majority this time.”

Another attendee said, “I am very happy to have attended this rally. The NDA will return to power in Bihar with a massive victory.”

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a sharp attack on the RJD and Congress, saying the bumper voting in the first phase of the Bihar Assembly polls had delivered a 65-volt shock to them.

Addressing a rally in Sitamarhi, the Prime Minister said there was widespread discussion that Bihar’s youth and women had voted decisively for development and for the NDA.

“In the first phase of polling, the proponents of jungle raj have received a 65-volt shock. The youth of Bihar have chosen development; they have chosen the NDA. The sisters and daughters of Bihar have also ensured a record victory for the NDA,” PM Modi said.

PM Modi alleged that RJD’s campaign messages revealed their mindset.

“Just listen to the songs and slogans of these proponents of jungle raj. On RJD platforms, innocent children are being made to say that they want to become gangsters. Should a child from Bihar become a gangster or a doctor?” PM Modi asked.

He said the NDA was offering books, computers, sports equipment and opportunities in education and start-ups — not guns.

“Jungle raj means guns, cruelty, bitterness, bad manners and corruption,” PM Modi said, adding that leaders such as Karpoori Thakur and Bhola Paswan Shastri had envisioned social justice and development, but that era was derailed during the RJD’s tenure.

REC registers 23pc jump in Q2 net profit at Rs 4,029cr; declares dividend of Rs 4.30 a share

New Delhi, Feb 6 (IANS) Government-owned Maharatna company REC on Thursday announced a 23 per cent jump in net profit to Rs 4,029 crore for the October-December quarter of the current financial year compared to the corresponding figure of Rs 3,269 crore for the same quarter of 2023-24.

The company’s net interest income rose 19 per cent to Rs 4,930 crore during the third quarter from Rs 4,153 crore in the same period last year.

“The Board of Directors of the company has declared the 3rd interim dividend of Rs 4.30 per equity share (on face value of Rs 10 each),” the REC said in a statement.

There was an improvement in the REC’s asset quality with net credit-impaired assets declining to 0.74 per cent during the quarter from 0.82 per cent.

The company’s revenue from operations shot up 18 per cent to Rs 14,157 crore from Rs 11,982 crore in the year-ago period.

REC disbursed loans to the tune of Rs 54,692 crore during the quarter compared to Rs 46,358 crore in the same period of the previous year, which represents an 18 per cent increase.

The company’s market capitalisation has recorded a robust 21 per cent jump to Rs 1,31,844 during the quarter from Rs 1,08,712 crore in the same period last year.

Owing to growth in all the verticals, resetting of interest rates on loan assets and effective management of finance cost, the REC is able to maintain its spreads and NIMs resulting in robust profit after tax of Rs 11,477 crore for the period ending December 31, 2024.

As a result, the Earnings Per Share (EPS) for the period ended December 31, 2024 accelerated to Rs 58.11 (annualised) per share as against Rs 50.65 per share as at December 31, 2023, according to a company statement.

The loan book i.e. Asset Under Management (AUM) has maintained its growth trajectory and has increased on a sustained basis to Rs 5.65 lakh crore as against Rs 4.97 lakh crore as at December 31, 2023.

Aided by growth in profits, the net worth has grown to Rs 76,502 crore as on December 31, 2024, as compared to Rs 64,787 crore as on December 31, 2023, registering an increase of 18 per cent year-on-year, the REC statement added.
