K’taka Cyber Command cracks down on 8,750 illegal betting platforms

Bengaluru, June 1 (IANS) The Karnataka State Cyber Command, in coordination with the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C), has carried out one of the largest anti-online betting operations in the country, targeting a vast network of illegal betting websites, mobile applications, and fraudulent betting URLs.

According to a statement issued by the Karnataka State Cyber Command on Monday, the operation resulted in action against nearly 8,750 betting-related digital platforms, including websites, mobile apps, mirror domains, sub-domains, and cloned URLs allegedly used to facilitate illegal online betting activities.

Acting on credible intelligence inputs, specialised cyber teams conducted a coordinated online investigation and identified organised groups operating illegal cricket betting platforms. The investigation revealed that the operators were using multiple mirror domains and cloned websites to evade detection and continue their activities.

Based on the findings, a case was registered under Sections 66C and 66D of the Information Technology Act, along with Sections 318(4) and 319(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Further investigation is currently underway.

The Cyber Command stated that thousands of citizens across the country had allegedly suffered significant financial losses, data breaches, mental harassment, and debt-related distress as a result of these illegal betting networks. Authorities noted that many vulnerable individuals had reportedly lost their life savings through credit-based betting systems operated by the syndicates.

Officials said the large-scale crackdown had disrupted a substantial portion of the illegal online betting ecosystem and helped prevent further financial losses to the public.

The investigation has now entered an advanced stage, with cyber experts focusing on financial tracking of funds invested through the betting platforms and identifying the individuals and groups responsible for operating the networks.

Authorities are also pursuing further legal action under the relevant provisions of the Information Technology Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Director General of Police, Cyber Command, Pronab Mohanty, said the Karnataka State Cyber Command remains committed to protecting citizens from cyber-enabled crimes and ensuring a safe digital environment.

He also expressed appreciation to the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) and the cyber teams involved in the operation for their support and efforts in executing the large-scale crackdown.

Jaipur, March 6 (IANS) More than 16 lakh women across Rajasthan have become ‘Lakhpati Didis’ due to the state government’s initiatives toward women’s empowerment and financial inclusion, officials said.

“To provide economic support and employment opportunities for rural women, Rural Women’s BPOs will be established at the district level with an expenditure of Rs 100 crore,” officials added on Thursday.

In addition, the loan limit under the Chief Minister Lakhpati Didi Loan Scheme has been increased from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 1.5 lakh, further encouraging women entrepreneurship.

Several innovative initiatives are being implemented through Grameen Aajeevika Vikas Parishad (Rajivika) to empower women.

Under this year’s budget announcement, the state government will provide buildings for offices and other purposes to 100 cluster-level federations formed under Rajivika.

“Saksham Centres” for digital and financial literacy will also be established in these offices.

By improving the branding, design and packaging of products made by self-help groups, 50 new enterprises will be developed in sectors such as dairy, textiles, footwear, millets and spices.

The state government will also coordinate with national and international institutions to expand the marketing of these products.

The state government is also working to promote women entrepreneurship.

Raj Sakhi Stores will be established at all divisional headquarters to provide Rajivika-affiliated women with capacity-building support to help their enterprises succeed.

For this purpose, centres for entrepreneurship and capacity building will be set up in all districts in a phased manner.

Under the Chief Minister Nari Shakti Udyam Protsahan Yojana, the loan limit has been increased from Rs 50 lakh to Rs 1 crore.

Additionally, around 5,000 women from self-help groups will be trained as “Banking Correspondent Sakhis”.

The state government will also develop 11,000 Amrit Poshan Vatikas to strengthen the livelihoods of women’s self-help groups while ensuring the local availability of fruits and vegetables for mid-day meals in Anganwadi centres and schools.

Early childhood care and education courses will also be conducted for Anganwadi workers, and 1,000 workers will receive specialised training from reputed institutions.

This year’s budget has also expanded the Kishori Balika Yojana, which was earlier implemented in the aspirational districts of Karauli, Dholpur, Baran, Jaisalmer and Sirohi.

The scheme will now be extended to all 27 aspirational blocks of the state, enabling more than 50,000 adolescent girls to benefit from nutritional supplements.

In addition, Chief Minister Shishu Vatsalya Sadan facilities will be established in government offices in a phased manner during office hours to provide care for children aged six months to six years.

Women’s safety remains a top priority for the state government.

The number of Kalika Patrolling Units, which work to prevent harassment, domestic violence and other crimes against women in public places, will be increased from 500 to 600.

Women’s barracks will also be developed in 100 police stations.

Additionally, female security personnel and guides will be appointed to strengthen the Tourism Assistance Force for the safety and assistance of tourists.

Under the leadership of the Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, women are being empowered through schemes such as the Chief Minister Nutrition Nutri-Kit, Lado Incentive Scheme, Chief Minister Nari Shakti Training and Skill Enhancement, Chief Minister Nari Shakti Enterprise Promotion, Solar Didi and Lakhpati Didi.

These initiatives have significantly benefited women, strengthening their economic status and increasing their participation in decision-making, while ensuring their active contribution to the state’s development.

UP Congress gears up for 100-Day action plan on Priyanka Gandhi’s birthday

Lucknow, Jan 10 (IANS) The Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee has intensified political preparations ahead of January 12, 2026, marking the birthday of All India Congress Committee General Secretary and Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.

In a directive issued by UPCC President Ajay Rai (former minister), district and city Congress presidents in key divisions including Ayodhya, Jhansi, Bareilly, Chitrakoot, Gorakhpur, Aligarh, Azamgarh, Agra, Meerut, Mirzapur, Gonda, Lucknow, Varanasi, Ghaziabad, and Mathura have been instructed to organise press conferences at all mandal (divisional) headquarters across the state.

The press conferences will focus on unveiling and discussing the party’s upcoming 100-day action plan, aimed at strengthening organisational groundwork, mobilising workers, and outlining priorities for the months ahead.

Following each press meet, a special programme will be held to celebrate Priyanka Gandhi’s birthday, reinforcing her symbolic importance within the party ranks in Uttar Pradesh.

Ajay Rai’s letter, dated January 10, 2026, includes an attached list of senior Congress leaders designated to address these press conferences in respective divisions.

District presidents have been asked to coordinate directly with these leaders to ensure smooth execution.

The UPCC chief has also directed coordination with Manish Hindavi, Vice Chairman of the UPCC Media Department. Full details of the 100-day plan and press conference guidelines will be provided separately by the state committee.

Body of one missing soldier recovered in J&K’s Kokernag, search on to locate the other

Srinagar, Oct 9 (IANS) The body of one of the two missing soldiers was recovered from the Kokernag area in J&K’s Anantnag district on Thursday, while the search operation to locate the other is on, officials said.

The body of a paratrooper, who had gone missing during an anti-terrorist operation in the upper reaches of Kokernag in south Kashmir on Tuesday, was recovered with his rucksack and service weapon intact.

Officials said the soldier, who was part of an ongoing search and cordon operation (CASO) launched earlier this week in the mountainous terrain, is believed to have died following an avalanche or snowstorm that struck the high-altitude area three days ago.

The identity of the deceased soldier has not been officially revealed yet.

Army paratroopers, operating under adverse weather conditions, were hit by a sudden snowstorm. Following the incident, contact was lost with two personnel, prompting immediate rescue efforts despite challenging terrain and low visibility.

The army said that massive search operations are continuing to locate the second missing soldier. Despite rough weather and difficult topography, joint teams of the army and police are on the job to trace the missing personnel.

Joint forces, including the specially trained commandos of the army, other security forces, and J&K Police, are carrying out aggressive anti-terrorist operations in J&K to dismantle the entire ecosystem of terror.

After chairing a high-level security review meeting on J&K in New Delhi on Thursday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah reiterated the Central government’s resolve to make J&K terror-free.

“Reviewed the security of Jammu and Kashmir along with the Lt. Governor and other senior officials,” Amit Shah said on X afterwards.

“We are committed to cripple the terror ecosystem in J&K. Our security forces will continue to have full freedom to crush any attempt to threaten peace and security in the region. Instructed to further intensify alertness and synergy to accelerate towards Modi Ji’s vision of a terror-free Jammu and Kashmir”.
