Bhopal, June 8 (IANS) In a significant relief for contractual workers, the Madhya Pradesh government led by Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has decided to increase the remuneration of contractual officers and employees by 4.46 per cent annually.
The Finance Department issued orders to this effect, making the hike effective retrospectively from April 1, 2026.
The decision is expected to directly benefit around 1 lakh contractual officers and employees working in various state government departments. This annual revision is being implemented in accordance with the contractual employment policy notified by the General Administration Department on July 22, 2023.
The policy stipulates that remuneration for contractual staff should be revised every year based on the Consumer Price Index (CPI) to offset the impact of inflation. The new increment rate of 4.46 per cent for the financial year 2026-27 is notably higher than the 3.87 per cent hike provided last year.
As a result, eligible contractual employees will receive a more substantial increase in their monthly pay compared to the previous revision. While the state currently employs approximately 1.5 lakh contractual officers and employees across different departments, not all will benefit from this order. Only those working in departments where the 2023 contractual policy has been implemented will receive the enhanced remuneration. Employees in departments yet to adopt the new policy will continue to draw their existing salaries without the benefit of this hike.
The Contractual Officers and Employees Association has welcomed the government’s decision but has urged the state administration to extend the CPI-based remuneration revision to all contractual workers uniformly.
The association emphasised that employees performing similar duties should not be deprived of the benefits merely because their departments have been slow in implementing the policy. It appealed to the government to ensure parity and inclusiveness so that every contractual employee receives the due increment.
The increment is expected to boost morale among contractual employees and help them better cope with rising living costs.
