MP govt moves to expedite nursing students’ results after HC directions

Bhopal, Sep 10 (IANS) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led Madhya Pradesh government has expedited the process of declaring examination results of eligible nursing students, following the High Court’s directions in a case involving irregularities in nursing colleges across the state.

For this purpose, Deputy Chief Minister Rajendra Shukla, who handles the health and medical education portfolios, on Thursday reviewed the matter with senior officials at the State Secretariat and directed them to complete the required formalities within the stipulated time so that students who meet the prescribed academic requirements do not face further delay in getting their results.

“Students’ interests are the top priority. All necessary procedures should be completed within the stipulated time in accordance with the High Court’s order so that eligible students do not face any difficulty in getting their results,” Deputy CM Shukla said after the meeting with officials.

He directed officials to immediately inform the concerned suitable institutions and ensure coordination with Madhya Pradesh Medical Science University for releasing the results.

He also asked them to ensure that there was no unnecessary delay in the process, keeping in view the academic future of the students.

The state government’s action comes against the backdrop of a prolonged legal proceeding concerning nursing colleges found deficient in meeting prescribed norms.

The case involves allegations relating to infrastructure, faculty and other requirements in nursing institutions.

The High Court has recently issued a series of directions concerning students enrolled in colleges categorised as suitable and unsuitable, including their transfer to compliant institutions, examinations and declaration of results.

The court has also made it clear that students who have been shifted to suitable colleges and have fulfilled the required academic and practical conditions should not suffer because of deficiencies or irregularities on the part of their institutions.

Officials have also been directed to ensure that any shortfall in teaching or practical training is completed through appropriate arrangements so that students can fulfil the prescribed academic requirements.

Deputy CM Shukla also directed the department to take necessary steps for the affiliation or attachment of students of colleges found unsuitable with suitable institutions, wherever required under the rules.

“Necessary action should be taken on priority while keeping the court order, departmental rules and the interests of students in view,” he said.

Public Health and Medical Education Commissioner Dhanraju S, Madhya Pradesh Nursing Registration Council Registrar Upendra Dhote, and other departmental officials attended the meeting.

Officials of Madhya Pradesh Medical Science University participated through video conference.

Attack on MP: Delhi BJP leaders hold protest, demand Bengal CM’s apology  

New Delhi, Oct 7 (IANS) Hitting out at “appeasement politics” of the Trinamool Congress government in West Bengal, protesting Delhi BJP leaders on Tuesday sought an apology from Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee over the grievous attack on a tribal party colleague in that state.

“We condemn the violent attack on BJP MP Khagen Murmu and other leaders in West Bengal on Monday. A state which is renowned for its art and cultural heritage has become a hub of violence,” Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva told IANS.

The Delhi BJP leaders were holding placards with slogans against CM Banerjee as they held the protest outside Banga Bhawan in Central Delhi to condemn attacks on a party MP and other colleagues on Monday.

Sachdeva said, “Bengal, which used to sing poems of Rabindranath Tagore, is witnessing bomb blasts and stone pelting at elected representatives.”

“A Tribal MP from the BJP who was trying to help the public was attacked by goons for doing this. The MP is admitted to the ICU,” he said.

“West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee is doing politics on the violent incident. The goons of Trinamool Congress are indulging in Muslim appeasement,” he said.

“We demand that Mamata Banerjee should apologise for the attack on BJP leaders and put an end to violence perpetrated by goons in that state,” he said.

The vehicle of BJP Lok Sabha member Murmu and the party’s Chief Whip in the West Bengal Assembly, Shankar Ghosh, was allegedly attacked on Monday by the Trinamool Congress activists at Bamundanga in Jalpaiguri while they were on their way to Nagrakata in the same district with relief material for the people affected by rain and landslides.

In the attack, Murmu was severely injured, and he is currently under treatment at a hospital in Siliguri in the Darjeeling district.

Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi hit out at the deteriorating law and order situation in West Bengal.

In a post on social media platform X on Monday, PM Modi said, “The manner in which our party colleagues, including a sitting MP and MLA, were attacked in West Bengal for serving the people affected by floods and landslides is outright appalling. It highlights the insensitivity of the TMC as well as the absolutely pathetic law and order situation in the state.”

“I wish the West Bengal government and TMC were more focused on helping people rather than indulging in violence in such a challenging situation. I call upon BJP Karyakartas to continue working among the people and assist the ongoing rescue operations,” he added.

Foreign mercenary plot: Delhi court sends seven foreign nationals to 30 days judicial custody

New Delhi, April 6 (IANS) A Delhi court on Monday sent seven foreign nationals, accused of imparting terror training in Myanmar, to 30 days judicial custody in a case being investigated by the National Investigation Agency (NIA).

The NIA Court at Patiala House passed the order after the accused were produced before it following the expiry of their previously granted custody.

The seven accused — six Ukrainian nationals and one American citizen — were arrested in connection with an alleged international network involved in imparting weapons and drone training to insurgent groups across the India-Myanmar border.

The NIA has also claimed that the accused had facilitated the procurement and movement of drones and electronic jamming equipment from Europe for use in these training modules.

According to officials, the accused were arrested from different parts of the country, including Delhi, Lucknow and Kolkata, for allegedly entering India on tourist visas and subsequently travelling to the northeastern region before illegally crossing into Myanmar.

The investigators added that further investigation is underway to uncover the full extent of the alleged conspiracy and trace all individuals connected to the network.

The seven accused include Ukrainian nationals Petro Hubra, Taras Slyviak, Ivan Sukmanovskyi, Marian Stefankiv, Maksym Honcharuk, and Viktor Kaminskyi, besides American national VanDyke.

The case forms part of a larger probe by the NIA into an alleged international network involving foreign mercenaries operating in India’s northeastern region.

Sources said that the anti-terror agency is continuing its probe to identify the wider network, including possible local facilitators and international linkages.

Earlier, the court allowed the NIA’s request to conduct proceedings at its headquarters. Considering security concerns, the Patiala House Court directed that all future hearings be held there, with the accused to be produced before the presiding judge.

K’taka ex-CM Bommai flags ‘pressure’ during SIR, urges ECI to ensure no ineligible person gets in voter list

Bengaluru, July 1 (IANS) Former Karnataka Chief Minister and BJP MP Basavaraj Bommai on Wednesday urged officials involved in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls to function impartially and not succumb to any political pressure during the voter verification process. 

“Officials should not yield to any kind of political pressure and must ensure that no ineligible person is included in the electoral rolls and that no eligible voter is excluded,” Bommai said.

In a statement, Bommai said the SIR process commenced on Tuesday with the distribution of enumeration forms across the state. He noted that reports were circulating alleging that some officials had been instructed to act under pressure from the Karnataka government and the Congress party during the revision of electoral rolls.

Bommai further said such reports had raised concerns and stressed that the integrity of the electoral process must be protected.

He appealed to all District Election Officers, Deputy Commissioners, election officials, Panchayat Development Officers (PDOs), and Revenue Department officials engaged in the voter list revision exercise to discharge their responsibilities in a completely impartial manner.

He also called upon the Election Commission to issue strict instructions to the vigilance teams constituted in every district to closely monitor the revision process and ensure that the electoral rolls are prepared in a fair and transparent manner.

Bommai further urged the Election Commission to issue a clear public directive reaffirming that all officials involved in the SIR exercise must function independently and without political interference.

The BJP leader said maintaining the credibility of the electoral roll revision process was essential to safeguarding the democratic rights of voters and ensuring free and fair elections.

It can be noted that the Karnataka BJP on Tuesday accused the Congress-led state government of creating hurdles in the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

Meanwhile, more than 12.48 lakh Enumeration Forms were distributed to voters across Karnataka on the first day of the SIR exercise on Tuesday, covering 2.25 per cent of the state’s 5.54 crore registered electorate, according to the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Karnataka.

As many as 291 deceased and 116 shifted electors were identified on the opening day.

According to the Chief Electoral Officer’s daily press release, “Officials also identified 116 electors who had permanently shifted their residence, 291 deceased electors and 77 individuals who were already enrolled elsewhere. Two cases were categorised under the Others category.”

The digitisation of completed enumeration forms also began alongside the field exercise, with 47,817 forms digitised on the opening day, accounting for 0.09 per cent of the electorate. In addition, 6,840 voters submitted their enumeration forms online, representing 0.01 per cent of the total electorate.

The SIR commenced with Booth Level Officers (BLOs) launching house-to-house distribution of enumeration forms to eligible voters.

Karnataka has 5,54,32,314 registered electors as of June 16, all of whom are covered under the ongoing revision exercise. The house-to-house enumeration and digitisation of enumeration forms will continue from June 30 to July 29.
