New Delhi, Sep 10 (IANS) Apart from extensive lighting and illumination works across its jurisdiction, the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) is implementing a plan for the beautification, improvement and upkeep of its green spaces in preparation for the BRICS Summit in the city this weekend, an official said on Thursday.
Kuljeet Singh Chahal, NDMC Vice Chairperson, shared information on the arrangements and ongoing preparations being undertaken by the civic agency.
He shared details of NDMC’s preparations, including flower boards, country flags installations, BRICS branding electric boards, decorative lighting in plants, placement of ornamental pots, beautification and other arrangements along key routes and locations.
As part of its preparations to showcase New Delhi as a world-class capital and provide a visually striking experience to visiting BRICS delegates and international guests, NDMC has undertaken decorative illumination of 17 major roundabouts, 11 hotel premises and 10 prominent NDMC buildings, an official statement said.
The illumination works are aimed at giving key locations a distinctive and elegant appearance while reflecting the grandeur and international significance of the forthcoming Summit, it added.
The comprehensive lighting arrangements are being executed with a focus on aesthetics, uniformity and energy efficiency, further enhancing the beauty of New Delhi’s major landmarks, roads and public spaces.
Under the green beautification plan, extensive horticultural and landscaping works are being undertaken across the NDMC area, the statement said.
An official said that floral boards will be installed at 15 major locations, while floral fountains will be placed at nine prominent locations.
More than 15,000 potted plants, prepared at NDMC nurseries, are being displayed along major roads, intersections, roundabouts and other important locations.
Special attention is being given to market areas, hotels, roundabouts, entry points, triangular plots and central verges through the display of flowering and ornamental pots, the official said.
The pots have been arranged in innovative and aesthetically pleasing artistic patterns and designs, adding colour, vibrancy and elegance to these prominent public spaces, he said.
The floral boards at 15 location featuring the theme of the BRICS Summit, complemented by vibrant and at nine locations artistically designed floral fountains, will be installed at prominent locations along the routes used by BRICS dignitaries, the official said in a statement.
These colourful floral displays will enhance the visual appeal of the avenues leading to Bharat Mandapam, adding vibrancy, freshness and a warm, welcoming touch to the cityscape, the statement said.
The implementation of the plan commenced with the systematic improvement of major avenues.
Multi-tiered and synchronised plantation of shrubs, trees and ornamental plants was undertaken to enhance the aesthetic appeal of the avenues, fill existing gaps and effectively cover barren patches, it said.
“The coordinated plantation has created a lush, uniform and visually appealing green landscape along important stretches. Hedges, shrubs and topiaries are being regularly trimmed and shaped to maintain a neat and well-manicured appearance, thereby enhancing the overall aesthetic appeal of the landscape,” the statement said.
A special tree-pruning drive was also undertaken to remove overgrown branches, clear dark spots and improve the visibility of signage.
To further enhance the appearance of prominent avenues, 15,000 ornamental potted plants are being displayed at strategic locations, including corners, paved areas and other suitable spaces.
The NDMC has also ramped up horticultural and beautification works at the BRICS Friendship Rose Garden in Chanakyapuri in view of the forthcoming BRICS Summit.
Located on Satya Marg in Chanakyapuri within the NDMC area, the BRICS Friendship Rose Garden is a beautiful and serene green space symbolising unity and friendship among the BRICS nations.
The BRICS Garden was established in 2016 on around three acres of land to commemorate the BRICS Summit hosted by India that year. It features 107 different varieties of rose plants and is maintained and managed directly by the NDMC, the statement said.
