Telangana Assembly’s special session tomorrow to pay tributes to Manmohan Singh

Hyderabad, Dec 29 (IANS) A special session of the Telangana Assembly will be held on Monday to pay tribute to former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh who passed away on December 26.

Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar has convened the second meeting of the fourth session of the third Telangana Assembly at 10 a.m. on December 30, as per a notice issued by State Legislature Secretary V. Narasimha Charyulu.

The special sitting has been convened during the ongoing mourning period.

The state government had declared a holiday for all government offices and educational institutions on December 27 as a mark of respect to Manmohan Singh. It had also announced a seven-day mourning.

Members cutting across party lines will pay tributes to Manmohan Singh, who served as the Prime Minister for two terms.

The ruling Congress and the main opposition Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) are also likely to recall the key role played by the former Prime Minister in the creation of Telangana.

It was during the regime of the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) that the Bill for bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh was passed in the Parliament.

Telangana came into existence as the 29th state on June 2, 2014.

Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy paid tributes to Manmohan Singh at the AICC office on December 28.

Revanth Reddy was attending the Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting at Belgavi in Karnataka when news of Manmohan Singh’s demise reached the top party leadership.

The Chief Minister called Manmohan Singh one of the greatest economists, leaders, reformers, and above all, a humanitarian of our times.

While paying his tributes to Manmohan Singh, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) president and former Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao mentioned that during Telangana movement, his party, then the TRS, as its strategy for a separate Telangana state, had an alliance with the Congress and recalled his association with Manmohan Singh as a minister in his Cabinet.

Leaders extend Eid-ul-Fitr greetings, emphasise unity, harmony

New Delhi, March 21 (IANS) Several political leaders on Saturday extended greetings on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, highlighting the spirit of unity, harmony, and brotherhood associated with the festival.

In Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh, Samajwadi Party MP Ziaur Rahman Barq arrived at the Eidgah to offer Eid prayers along with devotees.

In Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, Minister Danish Azad Ansari said, “Today is Eid, a very important festival for the Muslim community. We all offered prayers here peacefully, and prayers are being held across the country, including in Uttar Pradesh.”

In Delhi, BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi offered prayers at Imamia Hall on the occasion. He extended his wishes, saying, “Heartfelt greetings to all citizens of the country and to people around the world. We pray that the devastation of war and the spread of crises come to an end, and that the world is freed from them.”

In Patna, Bihar, JD(U) leader Nishant Kumar conveyed greetings on behalf of himself and his father, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. He said, “I extend heartfelt Eid greetings and best wishes to all citizens of the country and the people of Bihar.”

Minister Ashok Chaudhary also emphasised communal harmony, stating, “Just as we celebrate festivals like Holi and Diwali, in the same way we celebrate Eid and Bakrid. We respect all religions.”

In Mumbai, AIMIM spokesperson Waris Pathan and Congress State President Ajay Rai also extended Eid greetings, stressing unity, happiness, and brotherhood.

The festival of Eid-ul-Fitr, which signifies the conclusion of the holy month of Ramadan, is being observed by Muslims across the globe including India, with prayers, feasts, and gatherings.

However, celebrations in parts of West Asia remain muted this year due to the ongoing conflict, casting a shadow over the festive spirit. Several countries have announced extended public holidays of up to four days to mark the occasion.

Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar, is considered one of the most sacred periods in Islam. It commemorates the revelation of the Holy Book, the Quran, to Prophet Muhammad through the angel Gabriel. During this month, Muslims observe fasting from dawn to dusk, engage in increased prayer, and focus on spiritual reflection and self-discipline.

Eid-ul-Fitr, often referred to as the “festival of breaking the fast,” marks the end of this month-long period of devotion and fasting. The festival falls on the first day of Shawwal, the tenth month of the Islamic calendar, following the sighting of the crescent moon. Due to the lunar nature of the calendar and varying weather conditions, the exact date of Eid may differ across regions.

Aadi Karmayogi Abhiyan is largest mass movement for tribal development: Gujarat minister

Gandhinagar, Sep 2 (IANS) The ‘Aadi Karmayogi Abhiyan’, launched with an objective to ensure last-mile delivery of tribal welfare schemes, will be run in every city of Gujarat, Tribal Development Minister Dr Kuber Dindor said on Tuesday.

Speaking to the press, he said that multiple departments related to tribal welfare have been roped in to make the campaign successful.

Sharing information about the campaign, Kuber Dindor said that Aadi Karmayogi Abhiyan is the country’s largest mass movement for tribal leadership building, which aims to bring radical changes in governance and service delivery at the grassroots level in tribal areas.

“This campaign is inspired by service, dedication and resolve. The aim of this campaign is to institutionalise a people-centric governance system and a responsive governance system through multi-level capacity building and leadership development in the tribal areas,” he said.

He further said that the Adi Karmayogi Abhiyan is aimed at leadership building and improving service delivery in tribal areas.

The campaign is linked to the broader framework of Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan (PM-JANMAN) and Dharti Aaba Janjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan (DAJGUA), running under the aegis of the Ministry of Tribal Affairs (MoTA). The campaign covers 0.1 lakh tribal-dominated villages, 3,000 tribal talukas, more than 550 tribal districts and 30 states and Union Territories of India.

The Tribal development minister further said that under the guidance of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, this campaign will be run in 15 tribal districts, 94 talukas and 4,245 villages of Gujarat.

Under this programme, emphasis is being laid on preparing 20 lakh transformational leader workers. These young leaders will understand the problems and needs of the tribal people and work to solve them.

“The campaign is inspired by the spirit of service, dedication and resolve and aims to strengthen multi-level capacity building and responsible governance in tribal areas,” he added.
