New Delhi, Jan 2 (IANS) Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Thursday released a newsletter, in an apparent attempt to maximise his reach to the people and impress upon them with his exploits in 2024.
The newsletter summarises Rahul’s efforts as well as accomplishments in 2024, his endeavours in connecting with the electorate and also how he cornered the Centre on matters of public issues.
Sharing the newsletter, the Congress MP wrote, “Know my views on my speech on the Constitution and Manusmriti in Parliament and the developments related to it. Read along about my recent visit to the vegetable market and other activities.”
The eight-page newsletter showcases his heartfelt tribute to former Prime Minister Mammohan Singh, his arguments and assertions on the “battle between Manusmriti and Constitution” and also a recollection of the memorable moments from his Bharat Jodo Yatra.
“In 2024, Rahul Gandhi visited 25 states undertaking a yatra of over 6,600 km. He held more than 260 group interactions, addressed more than 200 public rallies and attended over 40 party events. He gave 15 speeches in Parliament and addressed 17 press conferences,” it said.
It also shows the Congress MP visiting people during times of crisis including soaring inflation, expressing solidarity with families of the Hathras rape victim and many others. Rahul’s address during the Congress’ Belgaum session in Karnataka’s Belagavi has also been documented.
A special focus has been laid on his Bharat Jodo Yatra, which the party credits for its spectacular performance in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Congress party which had just 52 MPs earlier, saw its numbers swelling to almost double at 99 in the 2024 elections.
The newsletter also has details of his Parliament speech, including his inaugural address as LoP, where he hit out at BJP over its “politics of hatred” while championing the cause of non-violence.
The Congress MP has also urged the readers and netizens to subscribe to his WhatsApp channel.
Notably, the political space in today’s world is getting increasingly driven by social media and digital communication and every party including the national ones as well as regional satraps are exploiting it to accentuate their appeal and amplify their reach to the masses.

Indore, Sep 1 (IANS) Former Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan on Monday criticised the Leader of the Opposition (LoP) and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi over the recent controversy surrounding the remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s mother, saying that he needs to understand history and speak with maturity.
“If Rahul Gandhi expects to lead, he first needs to understand history and speak with maturity. These things come with knowledge and experience. He is still immature,” Sumitra Mahajan told IANS.
Fondly addressed as ‘Tai’ (grandmother), she alleged that LoP Rahul Gandhi needs to understand the history and culture of India.
“Only then can he (LoP Rahul Gandhi) attain some maturity,” claimed the senior BJP leader.
Mahajan, who served as Lok Sabha Speaker between 2014 and 2029, made these remarks while responding to alleged abusive language used during the ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra’ in election-bound Bihar, which was led by LoP Rahul Gandhi.
She said that there was a time when the BJP was also struggling to establish itself, but the party’s top leadership kept meeting people and fought for them in a very positive and sensible manner.
“There was a time when we (BJP) struggled to win seats. We developed leadership and carried out marches. We got a leader like L. K. Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi. They used to hold rallies in big cities, and other party workers were visiting villages,” Mahajan said.
Mahajan (82), who belongs to Indore, also claimed that she expects LoP Rahul Gandhi to understand the values and behave like a “mature” politician.
There have been relentless protests from the state BJP unit since the day a video showing “derogatory” words used against PM Modi’s mother in Bihar.
Congress, led by state unit chief Jitu Patwari, is also carrying out a state-wide programme, highlighting LoP Rahul Gandhi’s accusations of alleged irregularities in the election system of the country.

Kolkata, Jan 22 (IANS) Tension erupted in Suri, the district headquarters of Birbhum in West Bengal, on Wednesday, over the alleged rape of a minor girl within a locked grocery shop by the owner.
The accused grocery shop owner Pradip Kirtaniya is absconding. The police have detained the elder brother of the accused for questioning.
It is learnt that a woman residing opposite the grocery shop in Hatjon, a retail market cum residential area in Suri, noticed the minor girl coming to the shop to purchase something on Tuesday night and also saw the accused owner taking her inside the shop. After the minor girl did not come out of the shop which was locked from inside, the eyewitness woman immediately informed the family members of the victim.
The family members, along with the local people, reached the shop and banged the door. But, according to district police insiders, the accused shop owner, after forcing the victim through the back-entry of the shop, escaped from the locality.
The victim came back home soon after and narrated her ordeal. The police were immediately informed and the cops took her for medical examination on Tuesday night only.
From Wednesday morning, the local people assembled in front of the grocery shops and some agitated youth also vandalised a portion of the shop.
As the cops from the local police station reached the spot, the local people started agitating in front of them. Some local youths also blocked the roads by burning tyres. Senior police officials were seen trying to convince the agitated crowd and requesting them not to take the law into their own hands.
A huge police contingent has already been deployed there to keep the situation under control.
West Bengal has been in the negative headlines nationally for the last few months over a series of reports of rape and rape-murder cases. The most talked about report in the matter was the ghastly rape and murder of a woman doctor at state-run R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata within the hospital premises in August 2024. The sole convict in the case and a civic volunteer was sentenced to life imprisonment by a special court in Kolkata on January 20.
