‘Odisha T20 League is a platform for youngsters to learn, compete and grow’: OCA secretary Sanjay Behera

Cuttack, Aug 19 (IANS) Odisha Cricket Association (OCA) Secretary Sanjay Behera has hailed the the Odisha T20 League as the competitive platform for the young players where they learn from experienced cricketers and gain confidence for furture.

Odisha T20 League is all set to kickstart at the iconic Barabati Stadium in Cuttack that has hosted international matches in the past, from September 18. The season will celebrate Odisha’s rich regional cricketing culture, with franchises representing different parts of the state, including Cuttack, Bhubaneswar, Kandujhar, Puri, Rourkela and Sambalpur.

The league is expected to bring alive regional rivalries, adding an extra layer of excitement for players and fans alike.

“The Odisha T20 League is an important step towards strengthening the cricketing structure in the state. It will give our young players a competitive platform where they can test themselves, learn from experienced cricketers and gain the confidence needed to take the next step in their careers,” Behera said.

“With teams representing different parts of Odisha, the league will also help bring the state’s diverse cricketing talent together. We are looking forward to some exciting contests and strong performances from the players. Our focus will be on providing the teams with the right facilities and creating a professional environment throughout the tournament,” he added.

He further said that the Barabati Stadium has had a strong connection with cricket lovers in the state and the support from the fans will be very important. “The support of the fans will be very important in making this season special. Barabati Stadium has always had a strong connection with cricket lovers in Odisha, and we hope the league gives them plenty of reasons to celebrate. We wish all the teams and players the very best and look forward to a successful and entertaining season.”

With a mix of experienced domestic players and talented youngsters, the Odisha T20 League is expected to help strengthen cricket in the state and give young players more opportunities.

New Delhi, Nov 2 (IANS) India continued its dominance in para-badminton with stellar performances by Pramod Bhagat, Sukant Kadam, and Krishna Nagar, who led the medal tally with gold, silver, and bronze finishes across multiple categories at the Polytron Indonesia Para-Badminton International 2025.

In an inspiring display of teamwork and determination, Pramod Bhagat and Sukant Kadam clinched the gold medal in men’s doubles SL3-SL4, defeating Indonesia’s Dwiyoko and Setiawan in straight sets 21-16, 21-12. The duo showcased exceptional coordination and tactical brilliance, underlining India’s strength in para-badminton doubles. Pramod also added a bronze medal in mixed doubles.

Meanwhile, Tokyo Paralympic champion Krishna Nagar displayed his consistency yet again, earning a bronze in men’s singles SH6 and a silver in mixed doubles SH6. Krishna and partner Sumathy Sivan fought valiantly before going down to Indonesia’s Subhan and Marlina, 13-21, 9-21, in the final.

Pramod Bhagat commented, “To secure Gold in Men’s Doubles with Sukant is an incredible feeling, especially after such a demanding tournament. Every medal, whether Gold, Silver, or Bronze, reflects the hard work and dedication of the entire team. We take immense pride in standing on the podium and representing India.”

Sukant Kadam added, “Our doubles game felt strong and connected throughout the week. Defeating the home favorites for Gold shows the level we are playing at. This victory gives us great momentum as we look forward to the remaining tournaments this season.”

Krishna Nagar said, “I am happy to contribute two medals to India’s tally. The competition was fierce, particularly in the finals and semi-finals. We fought with all our heart, and this Silver and Bronze fuel my determination to train harder and convert these into Gold in the next international outing.”

India’s medal rush continued across categories with podium finishes by several athletes including Sivakumar (gold, SL4), Nitesh (gold, SL3), Manisha Ramdass (gold, SU5), Solaimalai (silver, SH6 men’s), Sumathy Sivan (gold, SH6 women’s), S Kumar (silver, WH1 men’s), and Prem Kumar and Alphina James (silver, mixed doubles WH1-WH2). In men’s doubles WH1-WH2, Abu Hubaida and Prem Kumar secured silver, rounding off a successful tournament for India.

Pakistan skipper Fatima Sana to miss Sri Lanka T20Is for Women’s Hundred

Lahore, July 7 (IANS) Pakistan women’s captain Fatima Sana has received permission from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to skip the T20I leg of the upcoming tour of Sri Lanka in order to fulfil her commitments with Birmingham Phoenix in the Women’s Hundred.

However, the 24-year-old all-rounder will remain with the national team for the three-match ODI series in Sri Lanka, which is part of the ICC Women’s Championship. After the final ODI on July 28, she will travel directly from Hambantota to England to link up with Birmingham Phoenix for the remainder of the tournament.

Sana created history last month by becoming the first Pakistani woman cricketer to earn a contract in the Women’s Hundred after Birmingham Phoenix signed her through the competition’s wildcard draft. She was brought in as a replacement for Australian player Lucy Hamilton.

Although her international commitments mean she will miss Phoenix’s opening two fixtures, Sana is expected to be available for the rest of the campaign.

The Pakistan skipper heads into the tournament after an impressive individual showing at the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup. Despite Pakistan managing just one win during the group stage, Sana emerged as one of the competition’s standout performers with both bat and ball.

She finished the tournament as the leading fast bowler, claiming 11 wickets at an economy rate of 6.95. Her tally also saw her finish as the joint second-highest wicket-taker overall alongside Australia captain Sophie Molineux, with India’s N. Shree Charani topping the wicket charts with 14 scalps.

Sana also produced one of the performances of the tournament against South Africa, scoring an unbeaten 55 off 38 deliveries before returning figures of 3 for 16 in a spirited all-round display.

The Women’s Hundred will be Sana’s third overseas franchise assignment. She previously represented the Barbados Royals in the Women’s Caribbean Premier League in 2022 before featuring for Canterbury Magicians in New Zealand’s Women’s Super Smash during the 2023-24 season.

According to ESPNcricinfo, the PCB approved Sana’s participation in the Women’s Hundred as part of its efforts to provide the all-rounder with exposure in one of the world’s premier women’s franchise competitions.

KFCL: Ganderbal United, Baramulla Strikers play out draw

Srinagar June 28 (IANS) The Kashmir Champions Football League (KCFL), organised by Jammu & Kashmir Sports Council, moved a step closer to the knockout phase on Sunday with another exciting day of football, highlighted by a closely contested draw and an enthusiastic turnout of spectators.

The day’s opening fixture saw Ganderbal United and Baramulla Strikers battle to a hard-fought 1-1 draw in an evenly contested encounter. Kamran Hamid found the back of the net for Baramulla Strikers, while Sahil Ajaz struck the equaliser for Ganderbal United, ensuring both teams shared the points after an entertaining contest.

The second fixture of the day was played between Kulgam Avengers and Anantnag.

The Jammu & Kashmir Sports Council expressed satisfaction over the overwhelming response received throughout the group stage, with enthusiastic spectators turning out in large numbers every evening to support their favourite teams.

The growing attendance reflects the increasing popularity of the league and the renewed passion for football across the region.

With the group stage in last phase now, the tournament inching closer to move into its next phase, promising more intense competition as teams vie for a place in the latter stages.

The action resumes on Monday, with Srinagar United taking on Bandipora Blasters in what promises to be another exciting and last encounter of group stage. The match is scheduled to kick off at 6:00 PM.
