Telangana CM accuses KCR family of amassing massive wealth

Hyderabad, Sep 30 (IANS) Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Wednesday accused former Chief Minister and BRS President K. Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) and his family members of amassing massive wealth while holding key positions of power.

He claimed that KCR and his family cashed in on the Telangana movement to amass assets worth thousands of crores. They built farmhouses on hundreds of acres and are living a lavish life, he remarked.

Addressing a public meeting in the Sircilla constituency, represented by Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) Working President K. T. Rama Rao (KTR), CM Revanth Reddy launched a scathing attack on him and his father, KCR.

On his maiden visit to Sircilla as the Chief Minister, Revanth Reddy held a roadshow. It was a big show of strength by the ruling Congress in the BRS stronghold.

CM Revanth Reddy took a broadside at KCR for encouraging his family members to ascend to top posts and enjoy power during the 10 years of BRS rule in the state.

The Chief Minister said KCR called KTR from America to give him the Sircilla MLA ticket in 2009. “From 2009 to 2026, people of Sircilla have elected KTR six times, but why have the suicides of weavers and workers in this region not stopped? Why has the migration of workers to the Gulf in search of a livelihood not stopped?” he asked.

He stated that KTR won the Sircilla seat by a margin of just 172 votes in the 2009 elections and exploited his power to amass assets worth a staggering one lakh crore rupees.

Revanth Reddy asked people if the KCR family extended any help to them all these years.

Revanth Reddy appealed to people to wipe out BRS from Sircilla and promised that the Congress candidate winning from here in the next elections will be made a minister.

He assured the people that he will personally take up the responsibility of bringing about change in their lives.

“BRS, KCR, and KTR will be the past in the state politics and the Congress will remain in power till 2034,” he said

He demanded that KTR release a white paper on the property owned by him and his family members, including KCR, Harish Rao and Santosh Kumar.

“KTR built a farmhouse in Janwada; his sister Kavitha’s farmhouse is located in Shankarpally; Harish Rao’s farmhouse is in Moinabad, and KCR’s farmhouse is in Erravalli. Where did all of these come from? Where did KTR acquire properties like Deccan Serai, ‘At Home’ service apartments, and hotels with nearly 400 rooms in the vicinity of Hitech City? Does KTR have the guts to answer questions regarding these?” he asked.

The Chief Minister said he would also disclose the properties owned by KTR in America and Singapore.

CM Revanth Reddy slammed KCR for skipping the Assembly session and alleged that he was not ready to address the Dalit Speaker as ‘Sir’

He asked KCR why he did not even condemn the derogatory remarks made against the Dalit Speaker recently. The arrogance of KCR was visible when his farmhouse was cleaned with turmeric water after the Dalits staged a dharna, he said.

India’s pharma exports have shot up by 92 per cent in last 6 years: Minister

New Delhi, July 25 (IANS) Various schemes being implemented by the Centre to realise the vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat in the pharmaceutical sector have resulted in India’s exports of drugs and pharmaceuticals increasing by 92 per cent, from Rs 1,28,028 crore in FY2018-19 to Rs 2,45,962 crore in FY2024-25, the Parliament was informed on Friday.

The schemes include the Promotion of Research and Innovation in Pharma MedTech Sector (PRIP) scheme, the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme for Pharmaceuticals, the PLI Scheme for Bulk Drugs, Scheme for Promotion of Bulk Drug Parks, and Strengthening of Pharmaceutical Industry scheme, Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilisers Anupriya Patel told the Lok Sabha in a written reply to a question.

The PRIP scheme has been launched with an outlay of Rs 5,000 crore to transform India’s Pharma MedTech sector from cost- to innovation-based growth by strengthening research and promoting industry-academia linkage for research and development in priority areas in drug discovery and development and medical devices. Under this scheme, seven Centres of Excellence (CoEs) have been set up, she said.

The PLI Scheme for Pharmaceuticals aims to enhance India’s manufacturing capabilities by increasing investment and production in the sector and contributing to product diversification to high-value goods in the pharmaceutical sector.

The minister said that the scheme has enabled enhanced investment and production in eligible products. As of March 2025, the committed investment of Rs 17,275 crore targeted over the six-year period of the scheme stands substantially exceeded with a cumulative investment of Rs 37,306 crore made by the scheme’s third year, and cumulative sales of approved products of Rs 2,66,528 crore have been made, including exports of Rs 1,70,807 crore.

The PLI Scheme for Bulk Drugs, which has a total budgetary outlay of Rs 6,940 crore, aims to avoid disruption in the supply of critical active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) used to make critical drugs for which there are no alternatives by reducing supply disruption risk due to excessive dependence on a single source. As of March 2025, the committed investment of Rs 3,938.5 crore under projects approved under the scheme for investment over the six-year production period of the scheme stands substantially exceeded with a cumulative investment of Rs 4,570 crore made by the scheme’s third year, she further stated.

The minister also highlighted that the government launched the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana scheme to make quality generic medicines available at affordable prices to all. Under the scheme, dedicated outlets known as Jan Aushadhi Kendras (JAKs) are opened across the country to provide medicines at prices that are about 50 per cent to 80 per cent lower than those of leading branded medicines in the market. Till June 6, 2025, a total of 16,912 JAKs have been opened, and on average, about 10 to 12 lakh persons visit these Kendras daily and avail of quality medicines at affordable prices. As many as 2,110 medicines and 315 surgicals, medical consumables and devices are under the scheme product basket, covering all major therapeutic groups, such as cardiovascular, anti-cancer, anti-diabetic, anti-infectives, anti-allergic and gastro-intestinal medicines and nutraceuticals.

As a result of the scheme, in the last 11 years, estimated savings of about Rs 38,000 crore have accrued to citizens in comparison to the prices of branded medicines. Further, the scheme has provided self-employment to over 16,000 persons, including over 6,800 women entrepreneurs, the minister added.

Shakeel Ahmed Khan’s son allegedly commits suicide in Patna

Patna, Feb 3 (IANS) Ayaan Khan, the 18-year-old son of Congress Legislature Party leader Shakeel Ahmed Khan, was found dead in his room at the MLA’s official residence in Gardanibagh, Patna.

Authorities confirmed on Monday that he had allegedly committed suicide.

The family members of the deceased said, Ayaan had dinner on Sunday night and went to sleep alone in his room. When he did not wake up until late on Monday morning, family members checked on him and found his body hanging.

At the time of the incident, Shakeel Ahmed Khan was out of Patna.

Upon receiving the news, senior Congress leader Kaukab Qadri and others rushed to his residence.

“The entire Congress family is heartbroken by this tragic news,” Qadri said.

The police have launched an investigation, and an FSL (Forensic Science Laboratory) team has been called to collect evidence.

Secretariat DSP confirmed the incident but stated that the reason behind Ayaan’s decision remains unknown.

Political leaders across Bihar have expressed their condolences.

Former Union Minister and BJP leader Syed Shahnawaz Hussain visited Khan’s residence, while the Bihar Congress, through its official X handle, expressed deep grief over the loss.

Independent MP from Purnea, Pappu Yadav, also shared his sorrow, writing, “The only son of my friend Dr. Shakeel Ahmed Khan has passed away untimely. My condolences are with Shakeel Bhai and his family, but I have no words of solace for a father and mother.”

Shakeel Ahmed Khan is expected to reach Patna by late evening.

An MLA from Kadwa Assembly seat of Katihar district, Shakeel Ahmed Khan is currently the leader of the Congress’ Legislative Party in the Bihar Assembly.

He is also the national secretary of the All India Congress Committee and was the former president of JNUSU.

The 60-year-old Shakeel has also been an MLA on a Congress ticket in 2015.

PM Modi pledges to end Macaulay’s 200-year legacy of mental slavery in next decade

New Delhi, Nov 17 (IANS) Delivering a fiery address at the Ramnath Goenka Lecture at ‘Excellence in Journalism Awards’, Prime Minister Narendra Modi issued a nationwide call to arms: liberate India from the “slave mentality” planted by British colonialist Thomas Babington Macaulay nearly two centuries ago.

In a sweeping critique that linked Congress’s alleged patronage of Maoists and Urban Naxals to the destruction of India’s ancient education system, PM Modi declared that the next ten years will mark the final burial of Macaulay’s ghost.

“Almost every major state was once in the grip of Maoist terrorists. Who nurtured them? Congress gave birth to Maoists and Urban Naxals who openly rejected Bharat’s Constitution,” PM Modi thundered, adding that “the Maoists of the Muslim League have now become Congress municipal councillors.”

The remark, delivered hours after the NDA’s landslide victory in Bihar, drew sharp gasps and applause in equal measure.

Turning to the towering legacy of legend Ramnath Goenka, the Prime Minister hailed the ‘Indian Express’ newspaper founder as a warrior who defied British censorship as early as 1835—two decades before the 1857 revolt.

“Ramnath ji wrote in his editorial; I would rather shut down my newspaper than bow to British ideals. That fearless spirit is needed again today,” PM Modi said.

At the heart of his speech was a searing indictment of Macaulay’s 1835 Minute on Education.

“Macaulay wanted to create a class of people Indian in blood and colour, but British in taste, opinions, morals and intellect. He uprooted our glorious gurukul system—a beautiful tree that blended knowledge with skills, culture with pride—and replaced it with a factory that produced clerks ashamed of their own heritage,” PM Modi said.

PM Modi lamented that even after Independence, successive governments continued chasing foreign models.

“We kept looking westward for education, innovation, even language. We were taught to treat anything ‘imported’ as superior and anything swadeshi as second-class.”

He accused detractors of the National Education Policy of waging the same old battle.

“We are not against English; we are against the deliberate neglect of Indian languages. In which country are its own mother tongues treated like orphans?”

The Prime Minister announced a decisive national mission: “By 2035—exactly 200 years after Macaulay’s crime—India will be completely free from the mentality of slavery. In the next ten years, we will rebuild pride in our heritage, our languages, and our knowledge systems. This is my appeal to every citizen through the platform of the Indian Express.”

As the audience rose in ovation, PM Modi tied Goenka’s fearless journalism to India’s ongoing transformation.

“Ramnath ji fought colonial slavery with his pen. Today, we fight mental slavery with education, innovation and unbreakable self-confidence. The Indian Express has witnessed every chapter of this journey—and the most glorious chapters are yet to be written.”
