Telangana CM, Guv greet people on Janmashtami

Hyderabad, Sep 4 (IANS) Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla on Friday greeted people on the occasion of Sri Krishna Janmashtami.

The Governor extended his warm greetings and best wishes to the people of Telangana. “Lord Sri Krishna’s timeless teachings inspire us to perform our duties with honesty, sincerity and devotion, without attachment to the fruits of our actions,” he said.

“May we follow the path of dharma, righteousness and selfless service shown by Lord Sri Krishna. May this sacred occasion bring peace, progress, prosperity, brotherhood, amity and harmony to Telangana,” he said.

Chief Minister Revanth Reddy extended warm greetings to people on the occasion of Sri Krishna Janmashtami. He stated that the teachings of the Bhagavad Gita serve as a guiding force for human life and that one can achieve success in the endeavour of every life by understanding the philosophy and practicing the teachings of Lord Sri Krishna.

The Chief Minister prayed that the grace and blessings of Sri Krishna would always be upon the people of the Telangana.

Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) President, Mahesh Kumar Goud, said that the truth, righteousness, justice, and moral values taught by Sri Krishna serve as ideals for the world and are worthy of being put into practice.

“Praying that His blessings be upon everyone. Best wishes for Sri Krishnashtami to all the people of the state,” he said in a post on ‘X’.

Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader, T. Harish Rao, noted that Janmashtami marks the birth celebration of Sri Krishna, the sacred world teacher and divine incarnation who protects all the worlds, the joy of Yashoda, and who establishes righteousness while ending unrighteousness and injustice.

Telangana Rakshana Sena (TRS) leader, K. Kavitha, also greeted people on Krishnashtami. She said that Jagadguru Sri Krishna showed humanity the path of life through the wisdom of the Gita.

“I pray that Sri Krishna’s divine blessings fill every individual’s life with joy, peace, and prosperity. For the guru dakshina, Sri Krishna Paraatma accepted the Panchajanya conch and sounded its roar to end adharma,” she said.

Kavitha stated that with that same inspiration, TRS will end the ‘demonic rule’ in Telangana and pledge to realise the people-centric ‘Panchajanya Sankalpam – socially just Telangana.

Mumbai mega scam: ED uncovers Rs 41 crore trail in VVMC illegal construction racket

Mumbai, July 3 (IANS) The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has intensified its probe into the Vasai-Virar Municipal Corporation (VVMC) land scam, conducting fresh search operations at 16 locations across Mumbai on July 1 under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002.

The searches, linked to the case involving Jayesh Mehta and others, resulted in the freezing of assets worth approximately Rs 12.71 crore in bank accounts, fixed deposits, and mutual funds, along with the seizure of Rs 26 lakh in cash and a trove of incriminating documents and digital devices, a statement issued by the agency said on Thursday.

The investigation stems from multiple FIRs (first information reports) registered by the Mira Bhayandar Police Commissionerate against builders, local henchmen, and VVMC officials.

The case revolves around the illegal construction of 41 residential-cum-commercial buildings on government and private land earmarked for sewage treatment and waste disposal, as per the approved development plan of Vasai-Virar city.

These structures, built since 2009, were sold to unsuspecting buyers using forged approval documents, despite the developers being fully aware of their unauthorised status, the statement said.

The Bombay High Court had ordered the demolition of all 41 buildings on July 8, 2024. A Special Leave Petition filed by affected families was dismissed by the Supreme Court, and the demolition was completed by VVMC on February 20, 2025.

The enforcement directorate’s probe has uncovered a deep-rooted nexus involving architects, chartered accountants, liaison agents, and VVMC officials. The seized digital evidence reportedly reveals widespread corruption, including the flow of black money and manipulation of building approvals.

This cartel is believed to have facilitated large-scale illegal construction by exploiting regulatory loopholes and forging documents.

Earlier raids in May had led to the seizure of Rs 8.68 crore in cash and Rs 23.25 crore worth of diamond-studded jewellery and bullion, further exposing the scale of the scam.

Among those under scrutiny is a senior VVMC official from the town planning department, whose premises yielded significant unaccounted assets.

The ED has confirmed that further investigation is underway to trace the money trail and identify additional beneficiaries of the scam.

‘Don’t waste our time’: SC refuses urgent hearing on plea against police action on students

New Delhi, July 22 (IANS) The Supreme Court on Wednesday refused to urgently list a petition challenging the alleged police action against student protesters during the CJP-led ‘Sansad Chalo’ march in the national capital, with Chief Justice of India (CJI) Surya Kant asking the petitioner not to “waste” the top court’s time.

A Bench of CJI Surya Kant and Justices Joymalya Bagchi and V. Mohana was hearing the oral mentioning of the matter when the petitioner’s counsel sought an urgent hearing, alleging police brutality against students protesting at Jantar Mantar.

“Please don’t waste our time and don’t waste yours. Your time is more valuable than ours,” CJI Kant told the counsel.

The lawyer submitted that students were raising important issues such as ensuring the fair conduct of the NEET examination and seeking reforms in the National Testing Agency (NTA), including its dissolution in view of repeated allegations of paper leaks.

Cutting the submissions short, the CJI said, “Thank you very much.”

When the counsel insisted that there were videos showing police atrocities against the protesters and sought urgent listing of the matter, the apex court declined the request.

“We are not interested in videos. We don’t have time to watch,” CJI Kant remarked, refusing to grant an urgent listing to the petition.

The matter relates to the protests organised during the CJP-led ‘Sansad Chalo’ march, during which students and protesters attempted to march from Jantar Mantar towards Parliament. Delhi Police had put up barricades and imposed restrictions to prevent the march from proceeding beyond the designated protest site.

Following the protests, multiple FIRs were registered across central Delhi.

According to the police, four FIRs were lodged at Parliament Street Police Station, three at Connaught Place Police Station, and one each at Mandir Marg, Barakhamba Road and Kartavya Path police stations in connection with different incidents during the protest and maintenance of public order.

Investigations in all the cases are underway.

Meanwhile, Delhi Police have denied claims circulating on social media regarding stone-pelting and alleged police action, describing the videos as “false and misleading”.

In a post on X, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (New Delhi) urged the public not to share unverified videos and advised citizens to rely only on official sources for authentic information.

Separately, both the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) and the Supreme Court Advocates-on-Record Association (SCAORA) issued statements condemning the alleged use of excessive force against student protesters and members of the legal fraternity.

In a resolution adopted on Wednesday, the SCBA condemned the alleged “brutal lathi charge” on students and lawyers, sought an immediate, impartial and time-bound inquiry into the incident, and called for medical assistance to those injured.

SCAORA, in a separate statement, expressed concern over reports and visuals depicting the alleged use of force against students, emphasising that peaceful dissent is protected under Articles 19(1)(a) and 19(1)(b) of the Constitution.

Referring to the Supreme Court’s decisions, SCAORA said any restriction on peaceful assemblies must satisfy the constitutional requirements of legality, necessity and proportionality, and called for an independent and impartial examination of allegations of excessive use of force.

Karni Sena to hold mega rally in Agra on Rana Sanga’s birth anniversary

Agra, April 12 (IANS) Karni Sena is set to organise a massive public meeting in Agra on Saturday to mark the birth anniversary of the 16th-century Rajput ruler Rana Sanga.

The event, which will focus on the theme of ‘Kshatriya Samman’, will also serve as a platform to respond strongly to the recent controversial statement made by Samajwadi Party MP Ramjilal Suman in Parliament.

In preparation for the gathering, nearly 50,000 square metres of agricultural land has been cleared to accommodate the expected crowd. According to reports, attendees have been asked to bring flags and sticks with them to the venue.

The Agra Police have granted permission for the event, which is being held under the banner of Sanatan Hindu Mahasabha.

Security arrangements have been heightened across the city, with a three-tier security plan put in place to prevent any untoward incidents.

In addition, the police have issued alerts at the residences of individuals who previously made inflammatory remarks on social media regarding Rana Sanga.

On Thursday, members of the Karni Sena and the Kshatriya community performed a Bhoomi Pujan ceremony at Rami Garhi village, symbolising their spiritual and cultural preparation for the upcoming gathering.

The rally comes weeks after a row ignited by SP MP Ramjilal Suman’s remarks during a recent parliamentary session, where he said, “If Muslims have Babur’s DNA, then whose DNA is in Hindus? Who brought Babur? Babur was brought to India by Rana Sanga to defeat Ibrahim Lodi.”

His comments sparked outrage across the Rajput community, with BJP leaders, Karni Sena and various Hindu organisations accusing Suman of insulting both Rajput pride and Hindu sentiments.

Although Suman later clarified that his statements were based on historical references and not intended to hurt anyone’s feelings, the controversy continued to escalate. In response, enraged Karni Sena members attacked the MP’s house in Agra.

Protests against Suman have also spread beyond Uttar Pradesh. In Udaipur, members of Shri Rashtriya Rajput Karni Sena staged a demonstration, raising slogans and burning an effigy of the MP.

Arjun Singh Chundawat, President of the Karni Sena’s Udaipur unit, announced a bounty of Rs 5.51 lakh for anyone who could cut off the MP’s tongue — a statement that further intensified tensions.

The Karni Sena maintains that Suman’s remarks are a direct affront to the legacy of Rana Sanga, who is revered as a symbol of Rajput valour and resistance.
